This dormitory is co-educational and open to every student at FIU. Just like the other dorms, rates include a meal plan and vary but students will pay roughly $3,800 to live at Everglades Hall.

Although completing problems at a desk can be boring for many fourth-graders, multiplication games are an enjoyable way to hone skills and stimulate interest in practicing. Games are versatile and can be used for whole class practice, small group reinforcement or individual play.
Group Multiplication Games
Around the World requires multiplication flashcards. Position student desks in a semicircle. The student at the end stands behind the student directly next to him. The teacher shows a flashcard. Both students try to figure out the problem and the student that yells the correct answer first moves behind the next seat. The student who loses sits in the chair of the student he just competed against. The first student to make it to the end of the circle wins. This game can also be modified so the person who moves the most seats wins.
Provide students with bingo cards that have multiplication problems. Teacher will call numbers and students must solve the problems to determine whether you have called their numbers. The first player to cover a row wins.
In Last One Up, divide class into two lines facing the blackboard. The first person in each line goes to the board. The teacher says a multiplication problem. The first person to write the answer goes to the back of his line. As students miss a problem they are eliminated and return to their seats. The last standing person wins. This game works well if you have an individual game at students' seats so they have an activity when they sit down.
Small Group Games
There are many games that can be played with four or less people. Students can play multiplication war by drawing two cards each instead of one. Each student must multiply the cards he drew and the highest number takes the cards of the other players. In the case of a war, two more cards are drawn by each player and multiplied to determine who takes all the cards. For weaker multipliers, ace is 1 and face cards are 10. Make the ace worth eleven and the face cards worth 12 for stronger players.
Pair students to play tick-tack-toe. Print or create boards with multiplication problems. Students must solve the problem before marking their space with an X or 0. A turn is skipped if the problem is wrong. The first person to cover a row in any direction wins.
Individual Games
Play Beat the Clock by giving students a worksheet with many problems and see how many problems they can accurately complete during a given time period.
Print out a coloring picture and put multiplication problems in the parts of the drawing. Make a key indicating that certain numbers are to be colored with specific colors. For example, 2 to 16 are yellow, 17 to 30 are blue, 31 to 64 are red, and above 64 is green. As students complete the problems, they color the picture.

In order to understand what a philosopher is, it is important to understand a bit about philosophy. History
Ancient philosophers debated over the state of the universe, life purpose, existence and the political system as well as other subjects concerning humanity and the nature of life. Times changed and so did philosophy but not entirely. Many of the topics of debate that were of importance to the philosophers of old remain just as important in modern philosophy. The only difference is that discoveries were made along the way that have provided answers to some questions, but most of the unanswerable questions of old remain that way in this day and age. In fact, it seems that for every question answered, new ones form to keep the minds of philosophers, scientists and religionists ever occupied.
Significance
There were many great philosophers throughout history. Aristotle was one of them. In fact, some considered Aristotle to be the greatest of philosophers. Aristotle lived from 384 to 322 B.C.E. He was a student of Plato. Aristotle authored many great writings on life, death, the soul, heaven, physics, politics and more, most of them lost now.
Plato was a great intellectual mind as well as a compelling writer. He was a student of Socrates. Plato wrote much material that is just as relevant in modern times as it was in his own. Plato wrote in dialogues detailing conversations between individuals describing passionate debates, ideas and information.
Socrates was much more than a philosopher. He was a wise and courageous soul. He was put to death chiefly because the authorities were uncomfortable with the fact that Socrates caused others to question their own beliefs. He accepted his death with dignity. Socrates did not write his intellectual philosophies down but instead was probably the most well-known conversationalist as well as philosopher. Socrates, Plato and Aristotle were just a few of the many great philosophers throughout history.
Considerations
Although ancient Greece might be most well known for great philosophers, other cultures developed their own philosophies as well, and there was no shortage of great thinkers around the globe. Chinese and other Asian civilizations became known for their schools of thought. Confucius was another great philosopher. Philosophers such as Confucius and Socrates knew a truth that remains universal. Philosophy is more about the inner world of humankind and our relationship with the outer physical world than any other physical construct. Philosophy is a quest to find the inner truth in order to obtain answers to all other questions.

Pharmaceutical manufactures use potency classifications to protect the health of their employees.
To protect pharmaceutical workers from overexposure to an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) during the manufacture of medicines, a potency classification system was developed. This classification system takes into consideration acceptable occupational exposure limits (OEL) during initial manufacturing, tablet or capsule formation and final packaging.
History
In the late 1980's Syntex Inc., Merck and Company, Inc., Eli Lilly and Company, Abbott Labs and The Upjohn Company, five of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, met to discuss the need to classify the potency and toxicity of drugs during manufacturing to help protect their employees from dangerous occupational exposure levels. As a framework, they adopted the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Preventions four-category model for biosafety. From that came the SafeBridge four-category system of potency classification. Though they recognized the need to establish this system, the pharmaceutical industry has not declared a definitive system. While the SafeBridge classification system is widely used throughout the pharmaceutical industry, many companies modify this system to cut finer lines depending on the type and quantity of API they handle. In addition, different countries develop additional categorizations to meet their national health requirements.
Category 1
This classification of pharmaceuticals is the least potent. These medications produce immediate symptoms if ingested, have no lasting side effects and do not possess the ability to cause mutations, cancer or reproductive anomalies. When exposed to powder or gas forms of the API, the chemical should have good warning properties, such as smell or visual appearance, preferably at concentrations below toxic. Exposure to Category 1 API does not require medical intervention.
Category 2
This potency classification possesses moderate to high systemic toxicity, such as cardiac or liver. Constant contact with the chemical may be corrosive. Exposure to powder or gaseous forms will cause weak sensitivity, particularly in those who show an allergy to it or similar chemicals. Any side effects from exposure will produce immediate or delayed effects, and overexposure may require medical intervention. Like Category 1 API, this classification should also be free of mutation and cancer causing effects, as well as reproductive consequences.
Category 3
This classification is also the default classification for new pharmaceuticals without defined occupational exposure limits, unless clinical research indicates that the medicine is potent at 10 ug/kg of body weight, which would put the API in Category 4. This classification of API indicates that at a potency of 0.1 to 1 mg/kg of body weight the medicine has mutagenic, carcinogenic and reproductive effects. API in this classification are easily absorbed though the lungs or skin and produce immediate sensitization at low doses. Constant exposure will produce acute, irreversible and systemic effect with the potential to need immediate medical intervention. Work with this and Category 4 API must be contained in negative or positive air pressure clean room and degowning is necessary to keep from transferring minute amounts into the rest of the facility.
Category 4
This is the most highly potent classification of API. These API have working dosages from clinical trials at 10 ug/kg of body weight. The most common type of drug in the category would be chemotherapy drugs. Regular doses have known mutagenic, carcinogenic and reproductive consequences, with long-term side effects at higher doses. These API are easily absorbed through occupational exposure, so automation of manufacturing and handling is recommended.

1. Relax. Anxiety can make it difficult to access knowledge you already have, let alone learn new ideas. Consider exercising or meditation to release endorphins in the brain that not only numb pain but help you feel optimistic and open to new ideas. You know do the math. Calculus takes impossible situations and changes them so you can apply the math you already understand. It does this by focusing on multiple little points in time where things are not changing, applying regular math and then adding everything back together.
2. Focus on the applications. Imagine that your dream is to build the perfect alternative-energy vehicle. Fuel efficiency is key, and you live in Pittsburgh with lots of hilly roads where conditions are constantly changing because of the weather. You can easily determine how much energy your engine must produce in fixed conditions, but you are trying to minimize the car's fuel needs. You want to create an engine that adapts to use the least amount of fuel energy possible in each condition. Calculus's big idea, derivatives, provides the answer because it teaches you adapt equations to adjust for constantly changing conditions. Suddenly those slopes and hills are flat, and the math you have mastered is easy to apply.
3. Challenge yourself to find as many ways as possible to apply calculus to your area of interest. There is a reason calculus is required. Find it. Focus on the problems of adapting equations to changing conditions. Remember, it doesn't have to be a spatial problem. For example, derivatives are an important tool for understanding economic trends.
4. Make is social. Study groups not only help you learn difficult material, they make learning more fun. Challenge each other to find something to like about calculus, and share it with the group. Reinforcing each other's ideas and plans to use calculus in their chosen fields can make it fun for everyone.

Bottled water's main benefit is its convenience. Although the quality of tap water varies by location throughout the United States, state and federal regulations ensure its safety, and most bottled water is essentially tap water. What you're paying for when you hand over $1.50 for a bottle of water is the plastic container - not recommended for reuse - and a label. The annualized cost of routinely consuming bottled water represents an enormous unnecessary expense.

1. Determine how much bottled water you drink. Count the number of bottles - and the number of ounces in each - that you drink each day. If you drink from larger jugs, write the date on one when you open it, subtract the date you started from the date you finish, and divide by the days in a month. If a jug lasts three days, you drink about 10 a month.
2. Multiply the amount you drink by the cost. For example, 20 oz. bottles, bought individually, cost up to $1.50 per bottle. If you drink two a day, you spend about $3 a day. If you buy bottles by the 24-bottle flat, you will spend less. They cost $4 to $5 per flat, so the water costs around 20 cents per bottle.

Human services master's degrees focus on the theory and administration of social benefits programs. Some typical programs human services graduates work in include healthcare, drug addiction and mental health counseling and helping the homeless. Differences
The master's degree in Public Administration focuses on providing service to the public within a government framework, although the training received in the program is applicable to nonprofit administration as well. Remember, there are countless tutoring agencies, so presentation is everything to set yourself apart.
4. Build a website. There are plenty of free tools to help you, and plenty of free ways to advertise your services. After you start getting more clients and profits, a good next step is to start investing in pay-per-click advertisements. These clicks usually come from focused, interested parents and students. Ensure that your spending is bringing results. If not, make the necessary changes to keep those clicks profitable.
5. Gather testimonials from happy clients and include these on your flyers and other advertisements. Specific figures, such as "my daughter increased her score by 300 points" are especially helpful. Privacy can be maintained by not including the client's full name. Of course, only include these with permission.
6. Consider, after a while, whether to get an office. An office lends credibility to your organization, and provides increased visibility in your local area.

3. Make a list of items to look for such as cost, location, programs, degree levels, internships and placement assistance after graduation. Most of the schools will be in either New York or Los Angeles; but there are some schools with Internet courses available.
4. Create a list of schools you will consider. You will then need to research everything possible about each of these potential choices. Find what careers the teaching staff had before teaching; as well as how long the school has existed. You will want schools where the experience is extensive and both the school and the staff are well known before picking a fashion design school to apply to.
5. Have a portfolio ready to send to each school. Fashion design schools will want to see your work and your ability before you are accepted. Portfolios include drawings, designs and photos of finished pieces. Make sure you also include any recommendations or references from people in the fashion design industry which you have worked with.
6. Complete the application process for all of the fashion design schools you have picked out. At the same time, you should apply for any grants or scholarships available. A college degree is necessary for many careers. Many people start college right after high school; some choose to wait. Either choice has advantages and disadvantages that affect your post-college life.
Advantage: Get Your Degree at a Younger Age
A bachelor's degree requires about four years of full-time coursework, though many students require a fifth or sixth year due to changing majors, taking a semester off or academic problems that require them to repeat classes. The earlier you start your bachelor's degree, the earlier you can finish it. Thus, you can be working at a younger age in a job that requires a degree than if you had waited to attend college. This typically means you'll be making more money at a younger age, too. This comes in handy when you're 25 and want to start a family or buy a home.
Disadvantage: Haven't Sampled the Real World
By the time you've finished high school, you've been a student for over 12 years. Perhaps you've worked an after-school job or maybe a full-time job in the summers, but you likely haven't experienced enough of the real world to understand what you want to study in college. Taking some time off between high school and college allows you to explore the adult world better. Work a full-time job in an industry you're considering, travel to other countries or volunteer for an organization to get a better idea of what you want to do. While you can do these things while also being a college student, you can't focus on them as much as if you take time off between high school and college, away from tests and grades.
Advantage: Continue With Classmates
Not all of your classmates will go to college right after high school, but many will. Starting right after high school keeps you on a similar path to your classmates at the same time, especially if you and your friends plan to attend the same college. You can experience being freshmen together, including academics and the social side of college life. Taking time off can leave you feeling behind your friends of the same age group who chose to attend college right after high school.
Disadvantage: Not Ready
While there are usually more social opportunities in college than in high school, the academic side is often more rigorous. You're typically expected to do more reading, write longer papers and take longer finals than you did in high school. Many students enter college unprepared for these academic demands. They're looking forward to parties, skipping class whenever they feel like it and the other positives of being a college student. It's near the end of the semester when their grades aren't as high as they assumed they would be that the panic sets in. Many college students aren't ready, academically or personally, for college life. They got Bs in high school, no problem, but now getting a C in college requires a lot more work. Time off between high school and college can be used to improve academic skills and personal habits before diving into the challenging world of college.
Advantage: Less Responsibilities
As you get older, you'll take on more responsibilities, such as a spouse, children and owning a home. These things make it harder to attend college, as you have more demands on your time, attention and money. For many students who have just graduated from high school, they don't have these responsibilities yet, and can focus more of their time and energy on college than if they were 25 and have a newborn they need to care for.
Disadvantages: Haven't Saved Up Enough Money
College is expensive, and if you're the one paying for it, starting right after high school may be difficult, as your responsibilities as a high school student typically make it impossible to work a full-time job. Taking time off before college allows you work full-time to save up money, while also researching careers and testing out the real world.

Learn about your students' culture and language to help them learn English.
Approximately 175 million people around the world speak Arabic. (See Reference 3.) As more and more Arabic speakers move to English-speaking countries, it is vital that English teachers understand teach English to this specific language population. The key to teaching English successfully to Arabic students lies in understanding the Arabic culture and language. Spend time learning about your students' backgrounds and about potential problems that may arise as your students learn English so that you are better equipped to help your students through them from the beginning.
Instructions
1. Begin by teaching students the English alphabet. Teach sounds and write each one. Understand that Arabic has no vowels, but uses diacritical marks instead, and that it is written from right to left. (See Reference 2.)
2. Create practice exercises that focus on word order in English. Arabic students are likely to place words in a sentence in a very different order than one would see in English. For example, "'That's the teacher whom I met.'" may become "'That the teacher whom I met him.'" (See Reference 2.)
3. Use English in all of your lessons as far as is possible. Show students every-day objects to explain the meanings of words and concepts. As students' vocabularies grow, define new words using words that they already know. Limit the use of English-Arabic dictionaries.
4. Know potential pronunciation difficulties that Arabic speakers will have when they use English words. For example, Arabic speakers often find it hard to distinguish between the /p/ and the /b/ sound. (See Reference 1.) This can help you develop activities to help your students listen for and produce correct pronunciation.
5. Be aware of common stereotypes that Arabic speakers may hold about Westerners in general -- for example, that all Americans have a lot of money. In addition, be aware of stereotypes that you may hold about Arabic speakers. Become aware of cultural differences between your own culture and that of your Arabic-speaking students. Although most of your Arabic-speaking students may be Muslim, many are not. Copts, Kurds, Druze and Assyrians are just a few non-Arab ethnic groups that may speak Arabic. (See Reference 2.) Learn about the culture in general of your students' countries as well. This can help you to avoid or carefully treat sensitive cultural, religious and political topics in your lessons.

Yale, like other post-secondary schools in the U.S., such as MIT and Harvard, offers free online versions of some of the courses taught at the school. The online classes are freely available to anyone with an Internet connection and the desire to access them. Many provide additional materials like lecture notes and assignments to enhance the learning experience. The central feature of the Yale courses is the lecture recordings, which are usually in transcript, audio and video form.
Instructions
1. Go to the Open Yale Courses (oyc.yale.edu) website.
2. Click on a department that interests you from the left-side menu. Click on the names of the courses that appear to direct you to the website's home page for that particular course.
3. Read about the course on the course home page and access various parts of the course by clicking on the different section headers in the left-side menu. Click on "Class Sessions" to access the individual lectures, which is the main feature of the Open Yale Courses website.
4. Click on the name of any of the class sessions to be directed to the page for that class session. To get the most out of the course, it would be a good idea to start with the first class session.
5. Click on "[ html ]" under "Transcript" to access the transcript of that lecture, "[ mp3 ]" under "Audio" to access the audio for that lecture, and any of the links under "Video" to access the video for that lecture. Also pay attention to the "Reading Assignment" section and the "Resources" section at the bottom of the page for supplementary material that may be of benefit when working through that lecture.
6. Continue with successive lectures from the "Class Sessions" page as you complete lectures. As with most colleges and universities, it is up to you to participate in the learning experience.

However, aside from the glory and satisfaction of seeing students succeed, there are several other job benefits associated with being a math teacher.
Security
Math is a core subject for students at any level and math teachers are needed to provide students with the skills necessary to understand basic and advanced mathematics courses. Most middle and high schools are required to provide students with a variety of specialty math courses such as algebra, calculus and statistics. Symptoms
Symptoms of upper respiratory infections in cats are usually mild and can include a runny nose, loss of appetite, watery eyes and sneezing.
Causes
Feline URIs are caused by a wide range of different viral and bacterial infections, the most common of which are the herpes virus (rhinotracheitis) and the calici virus.
Treatment
Standard treatment involves addressing the symptoms of the virus, since there is no cure for URIs. In severe cases, the cat may need antibiotics or intravenous fluids.
Multiple Cat Considerations
In a multiple cat household, preventing the other cats from catching the URI is difficult. As soon as signs appear in one cat, that cat should be isolated from all the others in the household. However, the incubation period is two to seven days, so cats may spread their illness before symptoms occur. Disinfecting the home is also necessary.

The heat beats 3 billion times in an average lifetime.
The heart is arguably the most important organ in the body. Technically, you can live without a brain; but if the heart stops working, everything stops working. When studying anatomy, the heart is one of the more complicated organs to learn. It has many parts and functions, and it can be hard to keep them straight. Whether taking a class or teaching yourself, the best way to learn the anatomy is through repetition. With a little practice and patience, it can be done.
Instructions
1. Draw, or make a copy from a book, a picture of the heart. If you are more artistic, drawing the heart will help in the learning process. Keep it simple. If you are not artistic or prefer not to draw it, either copy a diagram you like from a book using a copy machine, or trace over one. You maybe able to find one on the Internet to download; many sites have pictures. Make separate drawings of the heart for each view you would like; include at least a front and back view.
2. Draw long, straight lines next to the major parts of the heart on the diagram. Include as many of the components as you would like if you are teaching yourself, or include what you were instructed to learn if in a class. Use a ruler to trace the lines to keep them straight. Make the lines long enough so that you can write a description of the part they are pointing to above the lines.
3. Make copies of the drawings you have created. Leave the lines blank. Make as many copies as you would like, but make at least 10 to start.
4. Fill in one of the diagrams for each view you made, labeling each part you have drawn a line to. Refer to the anatomy book for the proper name and to keep it consistent. Leave the rest of the copies blank for now, and put them aside.
5. Study the copy of each of the diagrams you labeled. Go over each one several times, one at a time. Say each part of the heart out loud as you review it. When you feel comfortable and ready, look at one of the blank diagrams and see whether you can identify the parts of the heart.
6. Put the reference diagrams aside. Turn them over or hide them so you are not tempted to cheat. Fill out the blank diagrams, one by one, until you can fill out each different diagram by memory.

Crime scene investigators (CSIs) can begin work with merely a GED, a high school diploma or a four-year bachelor's degree, but there is a range of classes needed to become a trained CSI. Classes include crime scene management and crime scene photography, as well as general education classes that are related to investigating crime scenes, such as biology and chemistry.
Crime Scene Management
Crime scene management (CSM) classes teach students the step-by-step process of find and collect evidence from a crime scene, and then preserve it.
CSM classes examine the theories of physical evidence and the legal issues related to managing the collection and preservation of said evidence so that it can be presented in a court of law. Students also receive training in managing the crime scene, diagramming and sketching it, and being aware of the types of evidence presented. Students will get an overview of photography, fingerprinting, and analyzing physiological and firearms evidence, as well as arson and explosives. CSM classes also cover safety issues.
Crime Scene Photography
Crime scene photography (CSP) courses teach students the proper photography techniques for photographing homicide scenes, autopsies, suicides, assaults, burglaries, and other crimes. CSP classes teach students about the latest photographic documentation methods, and techniques to operate the most up-to-date equipment. CSP classes also teach students about technical photographing issues, such as proper exposure, depth, focus, and lighting.
Fingerprinting Techniques
Fingerprinting and impression evidence classes teach students examine fingerprints, recognize patterns and identify known fingerprints. It also teaches them examine tracks left by shoes, tires and other evidence left behind by escaped criminals. Lastly, it teaches students recover these types of evidence.
Autopsy
Students learn about the procedures of a medical examiner's or coroner's office and how the evidence they glean from autopsies is related to the investigation.
Some of the topics covered in autopsy classes include learning how the body changes at the time of death and postmortem; determine how someone died (firearm injury, fire, blunt force, asphyxiation, etc.); and examine the body of evidence. Toxicology may also be taught in an autopsy class.
Criminalistics
Criminalistics is a class that studies the biological aspects of evidence. These include chemistry, toxicology, genetics, and other biological evidence associated with the crime. This class teaches students identify and analyze forensics evidence. Running equipment and techniques on various types of analysis are also covered.
Criminal Law
Criminal law and other legal classes give students a foundation of criminal law and procedure. They are exposed to how the prosecution and defense approach a crime and how the evidence gathered plays a role for both sides.

An emancipation is when a minor receives the legal rights and responsibilities of adulthood before he is 18 years old. Either parents or minors may file for emancipation. Specific emancipation laws vary from state to state.
Reasons for Filing
Parents can file for an emancipation of their child in most states when the child is 16 years of age. If a parent is unable to fulfill his legal obligation to provide for his child, he may wish to file an emancipation. Another reason parents file is when their child exhibits serious behavioral or disciplinary issues. Sometimes, a child may wish to be emancipated and her parent files for her.
General Rules
Despite state law variations, a child generally must be at least 16 and able to support himself independently of parental involvement. In most cases, the child must live outside of the parent's residence. All guardians must consent to the emancipation with few exceptions. "Implied emancipation" is effected by a new relationship of obligation and responsibility between the child and a third party that transforms the status of the child. Examples would be marriage or enlistment in military service.
Warning
Filing for emancipation is a serious event for both the minor and the adult. The adult forgoes all authority over the minor. An emancipated minor is legally responsible for his actions and welfare. Emancipation should be a decision made by both parent and child. Anyone wishing to file an emancipation should research the specific laws of her state and consult a lawyer.

Whatever the student’s situation, he or she most likely has a very busy and full life. When you understand your students, you will understand the importance of assigning useful discussion that will help them in the long run, rather than just “busy work.”
2. Similarly, it is vital that you understand the nature of online courses. Since you never see the students, the “discussion” that is generated in class is written rather than spoken. This can be difficult for some students if writing doesn’t come naturally to them. While you may intend for discussion to be informal, students may see it as a large written assignment.
