Instructions
1. Spark your geography interest before starting the course. You get more when you're interested in what you're studying than if you're studying because you have to.

3. With your renewed geography interest, obtain your geography books ahead of the course. Start studying for the exam before your first class, and read the book cover to cover. You don't need to memorize everything or to know everything in the book. Build a knowledge base to build on throughout the course.
4. Take notes in every geography class, and study all notes you take daily until the night before the exam. Read the chapters ahead of time, using each chapter's learning objectives to guide your highlighting efforts. Go back over the highlighted sections of your text a week before the exam.
5. Form a study group consisting of geography students taking the same professor. Quiz each other on geography lessons. Thoroughly cover each chapter so that you could come close to doing the oral version of the exam.
6. Reduce studying time the night before the exam. You risk mixing your data and selecting the wrong answers on the exam if you wait till the last day to study. Studying is a long-term process, the longer you take to study, the longer the information stays with you.

Enjoy a freshly brewed cappuccino after troubleshooting your Tassimo.
Manufactured by Bosch home appliances, Tassimo is a home brewing system that makes individual servings of coffee, espresso, cappuccino and latte macchiatos, as well as tea and hot chocolate. This automated home brewing appliance reads the bar code of the beverage (called a T disc) you place in the system and adjusts its settings to brew the drink you want. If your Tassimo brewing system stops working properly, try a little troubleshooting yourself before sending the unit out for repairs.
Instructions
Filling
1. Put a T Disc onto the disc holder if you find that the Tassimo is unable to move past the "Standby" mode. Press firmly on the top of the brewing mechanism to ensure its closure.
2. Replace the cup you have been using with a bigger cup if you have issues with overflowing drinks. Use a 12-oz. cup for coffee, cappuccino, latte, hot chocolate and tea. Use a 3-oz. cup for espresso.
3. Move the cup stand lower to accommodate a larger sized cup by putting your finger into the center of the stand and turning it clockwise. If your cup size still exceeds the space available, remove the entire cup stand and drip tray to fit your cup.
4. Elevate the cup stand by lifting the middle of the stand with your finger and turning the stand counterclockwise. By elevating the cup stand, you are bringing your cup closer to the brew mechanism, inhibiting and avoiding splashing while the beverage is brewing.
Indicator Light
5. Turn the machine off if the indicator lights flash for longer than a couple of seconds. To prepare the coffee machine, fill the water pot to the maximum level then put it back into the appropriate compartment found on the back of the Tassimo machine.
6. Turn the Tassimo machine on and put a 12-oz. cup on the cup stand. Put a cleaning disc with the bar code face-down on the T Disc holder through the top opening of the brew machine. Press the clamp down over the cleaning disc until it closes all the way.
7. Press the "Start/Stop" button. When the "Standby" light turns on, you must open and close the brew mechanism. Watch while the heating light goes on, then the green colored "Auto" light will turn on. Now press the "Start/Stop" button once more and then take out the cup, discard the contents and return it to the cup stand.
8. Take the cleaning disc out of the brewing mechanism and put a T Disc into the brewing machine with the label side facing downward. Once the heating light turns on, begin the brewing process.
9. Clean the window of the bar-code reader located above the piercing unit, as the problem may be that the system is unable to read the bar-codes. Use another T Disc if this approach is ineffective.
Leaking
10. Stop the brewing cycle by pressing the "Start/Stop" button if the brewing machine is leaking. Open the top of the brewing machine and take out the T Disc. With a soft cloth, clean the machine by thoroughly wiping the interior.
11. Remove the piercing unit by pulling it out and replacing it with another one. Press down on the replacement piercing unit to ensure it is in place.
12. Turn off the Tassimo and unplug it. Remove the cup stand, the drip tray and the back splash from the brewing machine. Reassemble the parts you removed, be sure to securely reposition them to ensure functionality.
13. Clean the water-expansion outlet located directly above the cup holder using white vinegar or lemon juice applied with a soft cloth.

College has become much more expensive in recent years, with no signs of slowing down. Now, more than ever, there are a great many expenses that you must track. This way, you can set a budget and stick to it.
Instructions
1. Open up your spreadsheet program on the computer before you start your college experience. Create columns for "Item", "Budget," "Actual" and "Variance." Copy this spreadsheet so you have one for each semester (you will most likely need at least 8 separate copies)
2. Spend money for your first semester. Keep track of all your college-related expenses (enter them in the "Item" and the "Actual" areas of the spreadsheet). Total them to see what you spent at the end of the semester.
3. Decide on how much you can spend based on what you spent the previous semester (If you overspent, you will need to lower your total budget, if you have money left over, you may be able to increase your spending). List all of your projected expenses in the "Item" column of the second semester.
4. List the amount of money you are budgeting for the second semester's items in the "Budget" column next to each of the items. Double-check the sum of your budget to make sure it equals the total expenses you decided on in Step 3.
5. Type a variance formula in each spreadsheet cell in the "Variance" formula throughout the entire budget. For example, if you start your budget with the "Books" item, Cell A2 of your spreadsheet may read "Books," Cell B2 would have the budgeted amount, cell C2 would be blank (this is the "Actual Cost" column), and cell D2 would have an equation like "=c2-b2". This will show the difference of the value in the "Actual Cost" column to the "Budget" column and will give you and indication of how close to your budget you are.
6. Spend money as you would through your second semester, entering in your receipts into the "Actual Cost" column of the spreadsheet for each item. Try to stay within the guidelines you have set for yourself. At the end of the semester, re-adjust your budget for the third semester and continue in this manner until you reach the end of college.

Writing a software test plan involves deciding what things to test of the new software, on what hardware and in what stages. Some say creating the software test plan is the same as any full-scale project management project. Being in charge of writing the software test plan, you'll conduct meetings and interviews with networking teams, current programming teams, upper management and end users. You'll create the software test plan when the software is in its planning phases. A word-processing program can make writing the software test plan easier.
Instructions
1. Decide what types of testing will take place and when. Code module tests parts of the code for functionality as each is created. System testing checks the overall software application, and load tests determine how the software holds up under extreme traffic and usage conditions.
2. Insert the approximate times or in what phases the testing will take place. Breaks or benchmarks in the coding processes generally indicate appropriate testing times.
3. List those who are responsible for reporting information, as well as the heads of each department involved in the creation and testing of the software. Include relevant contact information.
4. Identify and include any specialized hardware the software will be tested on. For example, note whether the testing is to take place on one laptop, one personal computer and one Apple computer all at the same or individually, or whether the software will be tested on prototype hardware when applicable.
5. Make a list of business expectations the software is expected to perform successfully. Categorize expectations for each major function of the software, so the testing can be performed separately. For example, separating testing requirements for calculation functions and those expected for sorting, deleting or updating functions will allow you to isolate the functions for finding the most bugs at once.

Getting Started
1. Write a curriculum. Books, websites and homeschooling associations provide resources to help you write a curriculum. A home school curriculum includes, but is not limited to, reading, mathematics, spelling, English grammar and civics instruction such as United States history, Texas history or government. Parents do not need to have home school curricula approved by local school districts.
2. Register with an online home school program. Register with online programs that provide the flexibility, course content, testing and evaluation suitable for your child. Some online programs follow strict deadlines and require students to complete assignments online and others simply provide the curriculum allowing students to study at their own pace. Choose a program that fits your lifestyle and budget. When you register for online home school programs, make note of assignment due dates and acquire any special materials you need to complete assignments.
3. Withdraw your child from school. When you withdraw your child from school, the school district may send inquiries about your plans to educate your child at home. You can respond by sending a letter of assurance to the school which states that you intend to home school your child and that you have a curriculum. Texas law considers the assurance letter sufficient to legally withdraw your child from school. You do not need to notify the local school district of your intent to home school if your child is not enrolled in school (See resources for a sample letter of assurance).
4. Write a daily schedule. Plan your home school activities using your curriculum and your child's needs as a guide. You can divide the curriculum into blocks of time following a traditional school model or you can devote an entire day or week to a single subject.
5. Administer tests to gauge your child's progress. Although some online course providers offer tests to measure progress, Texas does not require children attending home schools and private schools to be tested. Many home school parents, however, administer nationally-recognized achievement tests to their children to gauge academic achievement.

Georgia is home to 14 colleges and universities that compete in the NCAA Division II.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is divides college athletic programs into three divisions: Division I, Division II and Division III. Division II colleges are considered an intermediate level division because the sports programs are not as competitive as those in Division I and they offer athletic scholarship programs, unlike the schools in Division III. Numerous scholarships are available to students of minority ethnicity in California. Many of these scholarships come from professional organizations and are limited to students pursuing degrees in specific subjects. Some are open to all minority applicants whereas others target students of a specific ethnicity.
Scholarships with Wide Eligibility
Many scholarships in California are open to multiple minority populations. For example, the California Teachers Association offers the SCTA Ethnic Minority Scholarship to student CTA members pursuing a degree in education, with the stipulation that an applicant must be an ethnic minority. Another example is the California Psychological Association's Minority Scholarship Program. This scholarship is available in the amount of $2,000 to students who belong to any ethnic minority group and are pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology in the state of California.
Scholarships for African American Students
Some California minority scholarships are limited exclusively to African American applicants. For example, the California Librarians Black Caucus offers the Louise Jane Moses/Agnes Davis Memorial Scholarship and the Eunice J. H. Parker Scholarship Award to California residents who are African American and are also pursuing degrees related to library science or information science. Another example is the organization Black Journalists of Southern California, which offers annual scholarships to African American students pursuing careers in journalism.

The Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment Fund administers a variety of scholarship programs ranging in value from $250 to $5,000. Available HEEF scholarships include the Angel and Rosemary Varela Scholarship, the Architecture and Engineering Scholarship and the Eisner Foundation Scholarship. The Asian Pacific Fund is one of the best sources of scholarship money for Asian students in California. The APF administers a variety of scholarships in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The power rule of integration gives you the general solution for the integral of any variable raised to any power except -1, which represents a special case. Since integrals are antiderivatives -- in other words, if you integrate the derivative of a function, you end up with the original function -- think of the power rule of integration as doing the opposite of what the power rule for derivatives does.
Instructions
1. Convert any square roots, roots of other powers and powers in denominators to standard power functions. The square root of x equals x^(1/2), the cube root of x equals x^(1/3) and so on for the other roots. To move a power from the denominator to the numerator, take the inverse of the power: 1/x^2 = x^-2, for example.
2. Add one to the power. For int[(x^3)dx], for example, x^3 becomes x^4.
3. Divide the result by the new power. For example, x^4 becomes (x^4)/4.
4. Add the constant of integration, usually represented by c, to complete your answer. For example, [(x^4)/4] + c.

Get to know your audience before starting to write an editorial.
A newspaper editorial, unlike other forms of newspaper writing, allows you to go into the first person and give your opinion. There is an editorial section in every major newspaper, including "The New York Times," and people like reading them. Writing newspaper editorials requires a writer to follow a few basic steps.
Instructions
1. Get to know the paper and its readers. Writing for a college newspaper is far different than writing for a major newspaper that has tens of thousands of subscribers. Before you begin the editorial, get to know your audience. Ask other writers what these readers are interested in. For example, a first newspaper editorial for a college newspaper might be done on Internet file sharing, which is a topic popular with that age group.
2. Write a feature article first. Before you even write an editorial, get a good understanding of feature articles. If you are beginning as a writer, then you will have to publish many feature articles before an opinion can be offered (in most newspapers). This helps you prove to the newspaper staff that you have the writing chops.
3. Try to get a job working for the newspaper. The majority of the time, people on staff of newspapers write the editorials.
4. Ask editors if they accept submissions. You can still try to publish an editorial in a newspaper even if you are a beginning writer. All you need to do is ask.
5. Brainstorm valid points before you are ready to begin writing your editorial. Just like a school essay, an editorial contains valid points of the topic. It's about more than just writing about a popular topic, however; you need to offer both sides. For example, if you write a piece on Internet file sharing (basically getting things like free music), then just offering your opinion isn’t enough. Cover both sides of this issue--for example, talk about the common people downloading music, the artists losing money and the executives who profit most from the music.
6. Offer the editorial as opinion. Even if you bring in both sides, this is still your opinion. This means you can come to a conclusion based on what you think. Don’t say, "This is my opinion," because that will hurt the credibility of the story. Just state it, remembering that some might disagree with you.

A majority of high school students who take anatomy will be required to dissect a cat. Through dissection you can learn about the muscular, digestive and nervous system. Follow these steps to prepare and learn dissect a cat beforehand so you don't lose your lunch over this assignment.
Instructions
1. Wear a pair of old clothes or an apron and tie back your hair. Put on rubber gloves and keep your hands away from your face while you dissect the cat.
2. Lie the cat face up in the dissecting pan with the ventral surface exposed. Tie a string to the cat's left front paw, run it under the pan and tie it to its right front paw. This will keep the cat on its back.
3. View the cat's digestive system by making a cut down the center of the cat using a scalpel. Identify the diaphragm, stomach, intestines, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder and liver.
4. Identify the circulatory system of the cat. This includes the heart, aorta and veins.
5. Locate the organs of the respiratory system. These include the trachea, lungs, bronchial tubes and pharynx.
6. Cut down the legs and shoulders of the cat. Locate the muscles such as the Gracilis, Triceps and Biceps Femoris.
7. Clean your dissection equipment after you have finished dissecting the cat. Remove the clothes or apron worn during the dissection and wash your hands.
A letter of intent can help you get into a pharmacy residency program.
If you'd like to enter a pharmacy residency program, you may be required to include a letter of intent along with your resume or curriculum vitae. Read the application instructions carefully and make sure you're sending a letter of intent, rather than a cover letter. A cover letter is not as detailed and typically does not exceed one page. A letter of intent, on the other hand, goes into detail about your experience and future career path and can be one to two pages in length.
Instructions
1. Type your name and contact information at the top of your letter of intent. Include your address, phone number and email. It's important that the director of the pharmacy residency program is able to get in touch with you easily.
2. Add the date you plan to send the letter of intent below your contact information .
3. Start your letter with a professional greeting, and try to address the residency program director directly, such as "Dear Ms. Sampson."
4. Explain that you are applying for the pharmacy residency program in the first paragraph. If you've been referred to the program by someone, such as a professor, you should include that information as well. Also include the type of pharmacist you hope to become, such as a pediatric or geriatric pharmacist. Be sure what you plan to become relates to the type of residency program you're applying for.
5. Describe more details about yourself and your experience in the next few paragraphs. When describing your pharmacy-related experience, such as your education, internships or research, try to focus on details that may set you apart from other applicants, such as completing an internship that's closely related to the residency program. A high grade point average or any awards you've received can help here. In these paragraphs, you should also describe your career objectives and your professional goals. Explain where you'd ideally like your career path to take you in the next five or 10 years.
6. Thank the recipient for taking time to review your resume or curriculum vitae in the last paragraph. Repeat your phone number and email address, and let the recipient know when you're available to come in to talk further about your qualifications. Mention that references can be provided upon request.
7. Add a professional closing, such as "Sincerely," to the cover letter. Type your name a few spaces below the closing, and don't forget to sign your name in that space once your letter of intent is printed and ready to send.

Be Passionate
The best way to set yourself apart from other scholarship candidates is for your passion to show through in your essay. Your passion for the topic is something that cannot be duplicated. Likewise, you cannot create passion that does not exist. Tell why you want or need to receive the scholarship. Be genuine in expressing your feelings about the essay topic, and your personality and passion will grab the attention of the scholarship selection committee.
Be Proud
A personal scholarship essay is not the place for modesty. Write proudly about your accomplishments and how they relate to the scholarship for which you are applying. In addition to mentioning any special recognitions or honors you have earned, be sure to discuss any projects and coursework you have completed that are relevant to the scholarship. If the essay's word count permits, discuss the processes of the project and its impact on you personally.
Be Correct
Nothing ruins a good, well-thought essay like typographical or grammatical errors. Grammar and spelling must be perfect. If you have doubts about either, ask a trusted friend or teacher to proofread your essay. Many scholarship essays must follow specific formatting requirements, too. Before the age of the Internet, an encyclopedia was one of the few things people could use to get information. School aged children used them for reports, adults used them for knowledge. Today, encyclopedias are still in use. If there is a need for encyclopedias there are many places to get a set.
Instructions
1. Buy a traditional encyclopedia set. This would typically mean a hardbound volume set of books.
2. Find an encyclopedia on CD. This is probably the most convenient for today's technologically inclined society. Many times, the same companies that provide a traditional book encyclopedia set also sell a CD version.
3. Determine the budget for an encyclopedia set. If money isn't too much of an issue, then a traditional set is an option. A traditional encyclopedia book set can be quite expensive. A CD version won't cost as much. If the budget is small, go with the CD version.
4. Search with a favorite Internet search engine to find an online encyclopedia. Many online encyclopedias are free or have a free trial.
5. Obtain a specialized encyclopedia set for subjects such as science and medicine. There is a specialty encyclopedia for just about any subject.
6. Call a local school to find out where they purchased the encyclopedias used by students. Schools sometimes sell encyclopedias through a third party at a discount. See if this may be an option for you. Buying a used encyclopedia may save hundreds of dollars. Check garage sales for encyclopedia sets. Attend a computer or electronics show nearby and look for a CD encyclopedia set.
7. Establish who the encyclopedia is for. If it's just for a reference, then any general encyclopedia should suffice. But there are children's versions available.

Playing games in kindergarten is a great way for a teacher to help young children develop their social skills and interact with their fellow classmates. The most important part of a kindergarten game is for it to be fun while maintain the safety of your entire class.
Name Game
On the first day of kindergarten none of the students will know the name of everyone else in the class. Playing a name game is one of the best ways that you can help your kindergarteners learn each other's name. For this name game you will need some sort of ball, preferably a small beach volleyball, that students can throw to each other. When a student catches the ball, she needs to say her name. After that, she needs to throw the ball to another student. If that student knows the name of the person he is throwing the ball to then he should call out the person's name before the toss. If he does not know the person's name that he is throwing the ball to, he will learn it when that person catches the ball and says her name.
Checkers
Checkers is one of the best games that kindergarten kids can play because of its simplicity. Most of the kindergarten kids will probably know play checkers before coming into your classroom. If there is a student that does not know play, the students that know the rules can teach him. If you have 5 or 10 sets of checkerboards, you can let your class play checkers with each other while you work on paperwork.
Duck Duck Goose
Duck duck goose is a classic kindergarten game. It involves running, which is why it should always be played outside. To play, your kindergarten class must first sit in a circle, facing inward. One student, who is "it" (also known as the fox or the picker), walks around the circle. As he taps each child he must say "duck," but at some point he taps a classmate and says goose. At that point, the "goose" must get up and chase the classmate who tagged her. If the "goose" tags the child who was "it" before he sits in the spot vacated by the "goose," the "goose" returns to her spot and the game continues. If the "goose" didn't make the tag, she is the new picker.
Duck duck goose can be fun as long as you don't let things get out of hand!

Retailers purchase merchandise and resell it to customers. Retailers need an effective inventory management system to account for inventory purchases, inventory stored on the shelves and inventory sold to customers. Retail accounting requires knowledge of the inventory and how each sale impacts the business.
Recording the Sale
The retailer records the sale of merchandise at the time it occurs. She records the sale in the general journal or in a sales journal, a subsidiary journal. In the general journal, the retailer follows standard journal entry format by debiting Cash and crediting Sales on two individual lines for the amount of the sale. If the retailer uses a sales journal, she records one dollar amount on one line. This amount represents a debit to Cash and a credit to Sales.
Recording the Inventory Change
When the retailer sells merchandise to customers, he needs to record the change in inventory in addition to the sale. The merchandise leaves the building with the customer and no longer belongs to the retailer. The sales entry does not account for the change in inventory. The retailer makes a separate entry in the general ledger. The retailer debits Cost of Merchandise Sold and credits Merchandise Inventory for the value of the inventory sold to the customer.
Sales Returns
Some customers change their mind about their purchase after bringing it home. The merchandise may be the wrong color, the wrong size or a duplicate of something they already own. These customers return the merchandise, and expect to receive their money back. The retailer needs to record this event in the accounting records. Both the sale entry and the inventory change entry need to be reversed. The retailer debits Sales Returns for the sale price of the merchandise and credits Cash. The retailer also debits Merchandise Inventory and credits Cost of Merchandise Sold for the value of the merchandise.
Income Statement
Income statements for retail businesses follow a different format than traditional income statements. Since the cost of inventory comprises a significant expense for the business, investors want to know if the sales price covers the cost of inventory. Also, retailers incur merchandise returns, which impact the company's net sales. The income statement starts by calculating Net Sales, which is gross sales minus sales returns. The Cost of Merchandise Sold is subtracted from Net Sales to determine Gross Profit. All other operating expenses are subtracted from Gross Profit to determine Net Income.

These funds can be used to pursue any course of study, as long as it takes place at an accredited four-year institution in the United States. The annual deadline for application is January 9. ACS Scholars Program
The American Chemical Society provides scholarship money to members of minority ethnic groups pursuing a degree in chemistry through the ACS Scholars Program. These scholarships are awarded in amounts of up to $5000, and are renewable. In order to be eligible a student must be an African American, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American, and must be studying chemistry or a related discipline. In addition, a student must also be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States, must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, must be attending school full-time as an undergraduate (college seniors are not eligible), and must demonstrate financial need. Students in pre-med programs or planning to pursue a career in pharmacy are ineligible. The Asian American Journalists Associations offers a variety of scholarships to assist Asian American students majoring in journalism. The Mary Moy Quan Ing Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $1000 to a graduating high school senior planning to enroll in an undergraduate journalism program. The City University of New York/AAJA Scholarship awards up to $7500 to an Asian American student pursuing an M.A. in journalism at CUNY. In math, it is sometimes important for us to be able to estimate the values of square roots (radicals). This is especially the case on exams which do not permit the use of a calculator, and you are trying to eliminate wrong answers, or check the reasonableness of your answer. Also, in geometry, the values sqrt(2) and sqrt(3) come up so frequently that it is essential to know their approximate values.
This article shows you the steps to estimate a square root. The article assumes that you have a basic understanding of square roots and perfect squares. See the Reference section for more information.
Instructions
1. To estimate the value of the square root of a number, find the perfect squares are above and below the number. For example, to estimate sqrt(6), note that 6 is between the perfect squares 4 and 9. Sqrt(4) = 2, and sqrt(9) = 3. Since 6 is closer to 4 than it is to 9, we'd expect its square root to be closer to 2 than it is to 3. It's actually about 2.4, but as long you knew it was in that ballpark, you'd be fine. Even just knowing that it was somewhere between 2 and 3 would be to your advantage.
2. Let's try another example. Estimate sqrt(53). 53 is between the perfect squares 49 and 64, the square roots of which are 7 and 8, respectively. 53 is closer to 49 than to 64, so it would be reasonable to estimate sqrt(53) to be between 7 and 7.5. It turns out that it's about 7.3.
3. There are two square roots that come up very frequently in geometry. They are sqrt(2) and sqrt(3). It is very important that you memorize their approximate values. Note that sqrt(1) is 1, and sqrt(4) is 2. Based on this, it should come as no surprise that sqrt(2) is approximately 1.4, and sqrt(3) is approximately 1.7.
The most important thing is to remember that sqrt(2) is greater than 1, and sqrt(3) is less than 2. Another article discusses the application of these square roots in working with right triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem.
4. Students should make sure that they are comfortable with estimating square roots, and for that matter estimating all of their answers to see if they are reasonable. This will usually allow you to catch your mistakes before you hand in your exams.

Many students and parents are unaware of the extent to which there are great numbers of scholarships and grants available. 1. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application is not only for federal government grants for college, but the Expected Family Contribution it generates as a result of the personal financial information you provide helps colleges determine financial aid packages. The FAFSA can be downloaded or submitted online at the FAFSA website.
2. Get a list of scholarships you are eligible for by searching online scholarship databases such as FastWeb, College Board, Scholarships.com and the Sallie Mae Scholarship Search. These resources are free. Some scholarship search services claim they are free but charge a fee. Be on the lookout for scams.
3. Visit your library and check out books such as "The Ultimate Scholarship Book 2011: Billions of Dollars in Scholarships, Grants and Prizes" by Gen Tanabe and Kelly Tanabe or "The Scholarship Book, 13th Edition: The Complete Guide to Private-Sector Scholarships, Fellowships, Grants, and Loans for the Undergraduate" by Daniel J. Cassidy. Make sure you use recently published books or the most recently updated editions.
4. Contact individual colleges you want to attend. Ask the financial aid department about scholarships offered by the school. Ask whether, in addition to academic, athletic and minority scholarships, there are scholarships available in your targeted major field of study.
5. Contact professional associations and corporations for information about scholarships they offer. For example, if you want to work in the computer science field, contact computer and software companies and associations related to computer science.

Federal funds are defined as the monetary assistance given by the federal government to the public in vital areas. When it comes to education, this means that federal laws are put in place to allow institutions to access funding in order to help keep programs and institutions running optimally. This means that it is not the individual state's responsibility alone to address the financial needs of education.
Basics
The primary principle of federal funding for education is that this particular sector is vital to the development of the nation and should not be allowed to collapse. Thus, it should be given a reasonable amount of assistance when it comes to finances. When it comes to federal funding for education, this does not just translate to the creation of scholarships and grants, but also refers to other aspects of education. It includes research and development and providing adequate training. The funds can also be used to purchase necessary educational equipment like computers as well as to build infrastructure, such as new classrooms, and to improve existing ones.
Grants
While educational grants are not the only benefit derived from federal funding for education, they are the most visible. Criticism
Although federal funding in education is largely accepted, it does have its share of critics. Some people believe that having the federal government contribute funds to the educational system allows it to have greater control over the curriculum taught. This has raised fears that the independence of educational systems to teach what they feel they ought to will be compromised. Critics have also pointed out that the system for the distribution of funds is lacking. Some have observed that funds can be distributed unfairly, with some people getting aid when it seems they do not deserve it. Thus, calls have been made to improve the system of disbursement of federal funds.

It is important for schools to have well-prepared plans to respond to traumatic events.
The goal of crisis intervention is to provide counseling and assistance to individuals affected by traumatic events. Whether a traumatic event concerns human violence or a natural disaster, an individual or a group, the goal is to restore a sense of safety and attend to the psychological effects. A crisis-intervention plan is important not just for students; it also establishes protocols for faculty to respond to a crisis. With adolescents spending significant time and receiving mental health care in schools, crisis intervention has become an important responsibility.
How Children Respond to a Crisis
An individual's response to a traumatic event will vary according to both physical proximity to the event as well as emotional proximity. All children feel instability and a loss of control in response to a crisis, but according to the Center for School Mental Health Assistance at the University of Maryland, the response will be further affected by "his or her developmental level, mental health status prior to the trauma, community support availability, parental presence (or absence) during the event, as well as by the reaction of other significant adults." Young people also typically react to trauma with some level of anxiety, irritability, or problems sleeping, including many symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Crisis Plan
A crisis plan is an emergency protocol for a school to institute in the event of a crisis such as the death of a student or teacher, bomb threat, act of violence, community or national disaster or any other traumatic event. Just as all schools have fire-escape plans, schools have crisis plans for emergency incidents. The crisis team's response to the emotional effects of the crisis, to the mental health of the student body, should begin as soon as possible when order is restored. Misinformation is common following a crisis and only adds to students' fears and anxieties. In addressing children, counselors should focus on accuracy and honesty in recalling events, while avoiding unnecessarily unpleasant details. It is also important for children to find some way to express their emotions and to understand that there is no normal response to a traumatic event. Lastly, it is desirable to return students to their routine as quickly as possible both to emphasize the present and to reestablish security and stability.

Military Family Scholarship
The Fort Hood Area Military Family Member Scholarship Fund is available to the children and dependents of an active, retired or deceased member of the military assigned to Fort Hood or residing in a four-county area. The recipient must be a high school senior who is planning on enrolling in a vocational school or a four-year college after graduating from high school. The student will need to submit, among other things, his transcripts, an essay regarding how he sees himself applying his education in five to 10 years, and three letters of recommendation.
Post 9/11 GI Bill
The GI Bill (which provided the opportunity for servicemen to go to college or a vocational school after they'd completed a certain amount of time serving their country) was modified after 9/11. Now the benefits of the GI Bill apply to any soldier on active duty, but they may be transferred to a soldier's spouse once the soldier has served six years and agreed to serve another four. After 10 years of service the benefits of the GI Bill may be transferred to any of the soldier's spouses or dependent children.
DEA Program
The Dependents Educational Assistance Program offers a number of vocational and traditional scholarships to the dependents of eligible military veterans. According to military.com, this program offers up to 45 months of eduction benefits that may be used in a number of ways. The main paths offered through the Dependents Educational Assistance Program are traditional college degrees, but certification courses and vocational training are also covered by this program.

How Dyslexia Affects Learning
Approximately 15 to 20 percent of Americans have dyslexia. Some symptoms include reading slowly, difficulty reading, inept writing and spelling skills, and confusion of words that look alike. Having dyslexia makes it more difficult to translate words on a page into thoughts and ideas. Even though someone with dyslexia may be able to read the words on the page, understanding them is difficult. This reading comprehension is a critical component to learning. When words that are read are not understood, then the knowledge that results from what is being read is negatively affected. Learning happens through the accumulation and understanding of facts and information over time. Each new learned fact or idea is built on background information and understanding. If that foundational understanding is compromised, then so is the learning that is supposed to take place afterward.
In addition to affecting reading, writing, and spelling, dyslexia affects speaking and the understanding of speech. People with dyslexia have problems speaking even when their friends, family, and schoolmates speak well. Their learning is affected by the fact that they have difficulty conveying their thoughts and understanding what ideas others are trying to express to them. Learning is facilitated through the written and spoken word which makes it easy to understand how people with dyslexia have a hard time learning.
The Affect of Dyslexia on the Person
While having dyslexia makes it more difficult to learn through standard teaching methods, it is still possible to learn through adapted teaching methods. Having dyslexia does not necessarily affect one's desire and motivation to learn. Although over time, it can have a significant impact on a person. If no intervention takes place, people with dyslexia can develop a negative outlook on learning and can develop a negative self-image. They can feel ashamed and embarrassed to admit their disability because of the stigma associated with learning disabilities. If left unchecked, having dyslexia can negatively affect a student's learning experience by making learning more difficult and decreasing motivation and desire to participate in school.

Mandarin Chinese is rapidly increasing in popularity. People are attracted to the antiquity of and exotic flavor of Chinese culture.
