Patience is a virtue, especially in the world of education! If you are a patient person who likes to show people do things, tutoring might be for you. 1. Check the qualifications for the type of tutor you want to be. You can tutor in your home, at someone else's home or in an educational setting. 4. Create a resume outlining your area of expertise. Include any volunteer experience, experience working with children, experience helping others and leadership skills. You might want to include a picture with your resume.


5. Determine the ages you want to teach. Teaching children is different than teaching adults. Adults have different needs than children. Volunteer in a school if you want experience working with children.


6. Develop a contract outlining your hours and pay schedule or create a business plan stating your teaching objective, skills, hours and rate. A plan makes you look professional and covers payment details like when you expect to be paid.


7. Advertise locally. You can put ads in local supermarkets, shopping malls and convenience stores but the most effective place to advertise is at the local schools. Many schools have newsletter in which you can run an ad. Many schools also have fundraisers that you can donate your services to and get a lot of publicity out of. Ask if your local school has a list of tutors. Add your name to the list.








8. When you get intrest from a potential client, have a lesson plan and study guide mapped out so you can show them what to expect if they go with your services. This lesson plan should map out what you'll teach them as well as how long each session will be along with breaks and the times you're available.

2. Search the Web for information on scholarships. Do not leave any stone unturned. You never know what may or may not apply to you unless you read the qualifications. Some of the applications may require you to write an essay or submit a video, so do not let this scare you. When it comes to winning a scholarship, you must be willing to do whatever it takes to get the money to pay for your education.


3. Submit as many applications as possible. If it sounds like it may apply to you, then apply for it. There is no such thing as applying for too many scholarships. You must, however, use your common sense when applying for scholarships. Do not apply for something that is so outlandish you know it absolutely does not apply to your situation. That wastes your time as well as the award committee's time. Stick with what you know applies best to you.


4. Follow up on your applications. Typically applications are filed in the winter or early spring, and decisions are made in the late spring or early summer. Monitor your messages to make sure you do not miss any award notifications or requests for additional information. This can make a great deal of difference in whether you are awarded the scholarship or not.


5. Apply for multiple scholarships. You need not apply for only one; in order to achieve a fully paid tuition, you may be able to combine several scholarships.


6. Keep an eye out for scholarships that are advertised as "full scholarships." If you are athletic, consider applying for an athletic scholarship -- these are commonly fully paid.

Tour Milton Academy







Milton Academy is located in Milton, Massachusetts. It is a coed college preparatory academy for students in grades 9 through 12. The academy focuses on providing its students with intellectual freedom. A tour of the campus is recommended for prospective students and their parents.


Instructions


1. Take a virtual tour to get a feel for the campus. Go to the main website for Milton Academy. Select the "Admissions" link. Click on "Take a Virtual Tour."


2. Call the Office of Admissions. Summer visits may be scheduled Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During the fall, visits are allowed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Wednesday visits are offered between 8:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. You need to call the Office of Admissions at (617) 898-2227 to schedule a visit.


3. Interview with the Admissions Committee. Milton Academy requires prospective students and their parents to interview with a member of the Admissions Committee. Parents and students will both be interviewed separately to determine if the student is a good match for the program.


4. Attend summer camp. There are several summer camps hosted by Milton Academy. These camps include academic and athletic camps. There are also programs for computer, art and drama.








5. Stop in at the Schwartz Student Center. The center offers a common area, snack bar and recreational activities. Other facilities on campus include eight residence houses, Forbes Dining Hall, Ayer Observatory and Apthorp Chapel.

High School Scholarship Criteria

Students can start applying for scholarships as early as sophomore year.


With the cost of college tuition rising each year, high school students who plan on earning a college degree need to find ways to help fund their college educations. High school students can find thousands of scholarships from a variety of sources that provide tuition money to earn a postsecondary degree. While each scholarship has its own specific eligibility requirements, students will find that many of the scholarships have similar criteria.


Grade Point Average


A large number of scholarships for high school students require a student to have maintained a minimum grade point average throughout high school. The minimum grade point average needed varies depending on the award but generally ranges anywhere from 2.0 to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. National and highly competitive awards tend to have higher grade point minimums, like the Coca-Cola Scholarships, which require applicants to have a minimum 3.0 grade point average at the end of their junior year. Scholarships with higher award amounts also generally require higher grade point averages. The University of Evansville in Indiana awards full-tuition scholarships to students with a 4.0 high school grade point average.








Class Rank


Another common requirement for high school scholarships, a student's class rank can help him earn tuition money. As with the grade point average, the class rank requirement will vary depending on the scholarship but can range from top 25 percent to top 10 percent. Higher rankings can mean more scholarship money, such as at Minnesota State University Mankato where first-year students are given scholarship money depending on their high school class ranking. Students who rank first in their high school class can also find scholarships just for valedictorians, such as the Valedictorian Scholarship at the University of Houston.








Financial Need


Scholarships can be awarded based on merit, financial need or a combination of both. Because financial need can be subjective, scholarships may post specific financial aid requirements. The George Foundation, which offers scholarships to Texas high school students, states that an applicant's parents cannot have a gross income of over $50,000. Scholarships may also require a student to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to show financial need. The FAFSA helps the federal government evaluate a student's financial needs to hand out grants and loans.


Essays


Part of nearly every scholarship, the essay questions help judges and committees choose award winners. Because scholarship providers can receive hundreds and even thousands of applications, the essay questions can help set a student apart. Scholarship essay topics can include open-ended questions or ask a student to comment on a certain topic. A popular choice for essay questions, many scholarships ask a student to write an essay describing his college and career goals, like the Dell Scholars Scholarship, which requires a student to write about his career goals and how he intends to achieve them, as shown on the Dell Scholars scholarship application.

Test My Level In English







Two primary types of evaluation are available for nonnative English speakers. One is used specifically for measuring English proficiency for academic pursuits. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is often required by colleges and universities where a non-native English speaker must achieve an established minimum TOEFL score enrolling in academic programs. The second type of evaluation is the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC). This test is used by organizations to qualify employees for tasks where communication in English is required for meetings, conferences or other business-related interchange.


Instructions


1. Reflect on the reason you want to evaluate your English level. Are you planning to enroll in an academic institution where English is the native language? Then you will want to take the TOEFL since, according to Educational Testing Service (ETS), the TOEFL is required by over 7,000 colleges and universities in more than 130 countries. Are you reaching out for greater professional opportunities that involve regular communication on an international scale? Then you will want to take the TOEIC. According to ETS, TOEIC scores are used in 120 countries by 10,000 major corporations and organizations.


2. Review the different parts of the paper-based TOEFL (PBT). This is the test that is taken with traditional paper and pencil, and has three parts: listening comprehension, grammar and reading comprehension. The listening comprehension portion is 35 minutes, the grammar is 24 minutes and the reading portion is 55 minutes. In addition, everyone who takes the paper-based TOEFL is required to take the Test for Written English (TWE). The TWE requires you to spend 30 minutes writing an essay.


3. Consider that the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) is now the preferred method of administering the TOEFL test and differs from the PBT. The iBT test takes about 4 ½ hours to complete and has four parts: reading, listening, writing and speaking. There is no separate writing test required with the iBT. The intent of the TOEFL, whether taken as a PBT or iBT, is to determine the probability of success in an academic environment.








4. Review the two different parts of the TOEIC. The Listening and Reading portion is a traditional paper-based test that takes about 2 ½ hours to complete. The Speaking and Writing portion takes about 1 ½ hours. This test concentrates on general English used in the workplace. The scores on this test help employers to see your probability of communicating effectively in English in the workplace.


5. Find a convenient testing center; all three tests are taken at testing centers. The TOEFL PBT is taken in testing centers where Internet service is not available. The TOEFL iBT is the most often administered test. The testing centers are listed at the Educational Testing Service website.

Create A Plot Chart

A plot chart will give you a better understanding of the story you are reading or writing.


A plot chart, or plot diagram, is a device used to chart the rising and falling action of a story. It can be used by readers to give them a better understanding of the story they are reading or by authors to make them aware when they should be hitting certain notes, themes or plot points in the actual story. Making a plot chart is simple once you know what you're looking for.


Instructions


1. Draw a pyramid on a sheet of paper without a bottom side, so it is only two diagonal lines reaching a point at the top. On either end of the lines, draw a straight line.


2. Find the "exposition" in the story. This is the back story of the characters that usually takes place in the first pages of the book. A summary of the exposition should be placed on the straight line to the left of the pyramid.


3. Find the "inciting incident" in the story. This is the moment that the main plotline of the story begins to develop. For example, if it is a detective novel, this is where the detective is first introduced to the crime he is investigating. Mark this moment on the corner where the straight line and the left side of the pyramid meet.


4. Find the "rising action" of the story. This is a variety of plot points throughout, to be labeled on the front (or left hand side) slope of the pyramid. The amount of plot points you want to list depends on their importance, the size of the book and the location of the climax.








5. Find the "climax" of the story. This is the moment of highest tension and plot, when most of the plot questions that have been asked so far are answered. Generally speaking, it is the moment of most excitement in the story, what it has all been building up to. Mark this moment at the top of the pyramid.


6. Find the "falling action" in the story. This is the part following the climax where the story follows the characters after the excitement. Some stories have very little falling action, while others have pages and pages. Mark the plot points of the falling action on the down (or right hand side) slope of the pyramid.








7. Find the "resolution" or "denouement" of the story. This is the final part of the story where any extra plot lines are sealed up. Sometimes, it is also a time for a character to begin their life again following the action of the story, giving the readers a sense of what is going to happen to them now. Mark the resolution on the straight line after the pyramid.

Obtaining a Master of Business Administration, or MBA, degree is a smart way to take your career to the next level. Requirements

An unaccredited program could actually be a fraudulent program, and often won't be recognized by employers, schools or professional licensing bodies.


If you are interested in a distance-learning MBA, consider a program that is AACSB accredited. Accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is the "gold standard of business school accreditation," according to the Get Educated website . Also, if you want to obtain a Ph.D. or other terminal degree at an AACSB-accredited institution, you will need to make sure that your distance-learning MBA is from an AACSB-accredited institution.

Test For Conductivity







Everyone knows to keep electronics away from water as water conducts electricity. However, certain dissolved particles can make the conductivity of water increase or decrease. Setting up a rudimentary conductivity test will allow you to visualize the effects of solutes on the conductive properties of water.


Instructions


Creating the Tester


1. Solder electrical wire to the snap connector for the 9V battery. Attach and solder an alligator clip to the wire that will be the negative end.


2. Solder the resistor to the wire connected to the positive end. Solder the LED to the resistor and the other alligator clip to the other end of the LED.


3. Clip a medium length of straightened paper clip to each alligator clip, ensuring that they do not touch so you do not create a short after you connect the battery.


Testing the Solutions


4. Dip each paper clip into the test solution without touching each other, or the bottom or sides of the glass.








5. Observe the strength of light emitting from the LED.


6. Repeat this for other test solutions. The stronger the light, the more conductive the solution is.

Aptitude tests are beneficial to employers and job candidates alike.


Aptitude tests provide an accurate assessment of an individual's strengths and weaknesses. It is beneficial to administer these tests in high school, as the results can provide valuable guidance to students when choosing a college course of study and career path. Aptitude tests are also beneficial to employers seeking job candidates with a specific combination of strengths, as well as adults planning to enter the workforce or considering a career change. Employers may prefer to write their own aptitude tests in order to custom-design questions that address specific workplace situations and focus on candidate's strengths or weaknesses.


Instructions


Aptitude Test Basics


1. Write multiple-choice questions that offer test-takers a range of responses. For example, pose the query, "When assembling products from a box or kit, do you read the instructions?" and provide the choices, "A) Yes, I read each step before I even begin working," "B) I glance at pictures and diagrams to see how the finished product should look," "C) I will look at the directions if I run into a problem," and "D) I throw the directions away with the box and figure out assemble the product myself."


2. Instruct the test-taker to complete all questions on the aptitude test and set a time limit for the exam. An average of 30 seconds per question is a good rule of thumb. Explain the importance of choosing the answer that best matches the person's first instinct rather than over analyzing the questions.


3. Include at least five questions that address learning styles. Ask about the person's need to hear instructions, read directions, see illustrations of processes or have tasks demonstrated by another person. Determine if the subject prefers to figure out things alone, or prefers to be part of a team or have a mentor.


4. Determine the candidate's leadership aptitude with a series of three to five questions about following established procedures or developing new methods and whether the person is comfortable questioning the way things are and providing alternatives. Inquire about the subject's time management skills and ability to identify wasted time in completing tasks.


Determine Intuitive Abilities


5. Ask if the subject computes numbers mentally with ease or requires the use of a pencil or calculator to solve numeric expressions. Provide at least five series of six or more numbers with different patterns and give four choices for the number that should follow. Patterns could be as simple as counting by odd numbers or as complex as doubling the interval between each numeral in the series, but be sure the pattern could be recognized in an amount of time proportional to the amount of time you allot for the test.


6. Inquire about speaking ability in at least three questions. Ask about the person's ability to give clear verbal directions to someone and express complex ideas sequentially. Determine whether the person enjoys public speaking, avoids it or falls somewhere in between the two extremes.

Instructions


1. Log on to your computer and open your Excel spreadsheet program. Open a new spreadsheet.








2. Enter your formulas in the appropriate cells. For instance, if you want to multiply columns A and B and show the results in column C, you would create the formula "=A1*B1" then copy it down to the remaining cells in the C column.


3. Type a few small numbers into the data portion of your Excel spreadsheet. Check the results of your formula to ensure they are accurate. If the result of a simple multiplication like 2 x 4 is not correct, you know there is a problem with your spreadsheet formula.


4. Scroll through each cell on the spreadsheet looking for formulas. As you scroll through the spreadsheet, you may see formulas like "=SUM(F1:F8)," "=B5*B6" or "=C7/C10." Note the locations of these formulas and the cells they reference.








5. Enter simple numbers into the referenced cells to test the integrity of the formulas and view the results. For instance, if a formula in your spreadsheet divides the number in cell C7 by the number in cell C10, you could enter 14 in cell C7 and 2 in cell C10. If you see a 7 in the formula cell you know things are working properly. Otherwise you know you need to revise the formula.


6. Check the spreadsheet for any cells that display "#########." This means that the contents of the cell are too wide to display in the space allotted. You can widen the column by placing your cursor in the corner of the column label and pulling it out.

1. Select a setting for your project, if the instructor or project manager did not give a setting. For example, you may want to select a popular setting, such as a cosmetic or teen clothing store. Alternatively, you may want to select a setting that allows for more personal creativity, such as a beloved local retailer.


2. Define your target market. For example, if you select MAC Cosmetics for your visual merchandising project, your target market does not include most 50-year-old men. On the opposite side, cigar stores do not market to those under the age of 18. Knowing your market allows you to narrow what visually excites your store's potential customer.


3. Create a project theme. Often times, the instructor gives you a project theme. If you can develop your own theme as part of the project, try to use a theme that grabs the attention of your target market. Trends develop from location, target market and media, so look to these places for your theme. When selecting your theme, focus on your major target group. For example, the sugar skull theme may bring in buyers in the American Southwest, but buyers in the Canadian Northeast might not relate to or recognize that theme.


4. Create a color palette. To do this, utilize a variety of sources, such as scientific and marketing studies on colors, displays from major competitors, visuals from companies that market to the same group that your company markets to, theme-related colors and anything else you can think of for color inspiration.








5. Create a visual layout, considering the layout of your store. Your visual layout should reflect the theme and highlight and market your product. Make sure that your visual layout includes the following elements, outlined by the Parkway School District's website: symmetrical and asymmetrical balance, drawing the eye to the necessary item (you don't want to emphasize shoes in a store that doesn't sell them), proportion, rhythm, harmony and visual effectiveness.

Never leave a sorority sister in a room alone with a potential new member, as this can create awkwardness for both women and may be against the regulations of your university. Instead, make sure at least two of your sorority sisters are assigned to each room in your house. Inform each sorority sister of her room assignment and let her know which sorority sister will also be speaking with potential new members in the same room. These sorority sisters can then plan conversations and work together to create an inviting and comfortable environment for the potential new members.


4. Plan a craft activity on a more casual day that emphasizes the importance of your philanthropy to the potential new members. It is important to show potential new members that your sorority members are dedicated to helping your philanthropy. Make simple bracelets to be donated to a local children's hospital or have girls help design a simple pin that will be worn around campus to help raise awareness of your cause.


5. Incorporate some sorority tradition into your recruitment. Many sororities have their own rules and regulations about what types of traditions can be shared with women who are not yet members of the sorority. Feminist literary theory and criticism is a relatively new form of examining literature and text. Juris Doctorate is the technical term for a professional law degree. After obtaining a Juris Doctorate, or J.D., students go on to practice a number of different kinds of law. Generally, students obtain this degree after completing an undergraduate education.


History


The first law degrees were handed out in Europe during the 11th century. Italy and England had early programs. While legal education was important, however, lawyers could bypass this schooling and become professionals by apprenticing themselves to older lawyers. This was also true in the United States, where Juris Doctorates didn't become mandatory until the 1950s.


Function


A Juris Doctorate proves the holder has undergone rigorous legal training. These graduates have firm footing with the word of the law and its interpretation. Once a J.D. has been obtained, students generally go on to complete the bar exam. This regulatory test, combined with an academic degree, shows whether the student is prepared to represent the public in legal proceedings.


Time Frame








Most Juris Doctorates take three years to obtain. Part-time programs may allow you to finish in four years. Most students experience law school as a full-time commitment, and use the the summer between each academic year to further their legal knowledge through internships, independent study and research programs.


Features


Most law programs offer a wide variety of classes to prepare their students for their professional careers. At law school, students study constitutional law, contracts, criminal and civil law, torts, legal procedure and more. Law schools also offer clubs such as mock trial, moot court and law review to further prepare their students.








Considerations


Those contemplating law school should remember that the experience is meant to be intense. Law students often have no time for anything besides studying. Further, most learning is done through case studies. These are detailed examinations of legal writing and case histories related to certain legal principles. If this type of work doesn't appeal to you, you may want to reconsider your decision to get a Juris Doctorate.


Fun Fact


Since the Juris Doctorate doesn't focus on research and academic applications, recipients are usually not addressed as "Doctor." Instead, most lawyers choose "attorney at law" or "esquire" as their honorific.

Colleges In Michigan That Specialize In Nutrition

The American Society for Nutrition notes 150 graduate programs in nutrition throughout the United States, including several in Michigan. Michigan colleges that offer graduate and undergraduate degrees in nutrition do so as part of larger divisions. Faculty members integrate high-quality nutrition course work with other scientific and clinical studies, such as public health, food science and dietetics.


Central Michigan University


Central Michigan University's foods and nutrition department, part of the College of Education and Human Services, offers three training programs in nutrition: food service administration, dietetics and nutrition, and eietetics. Nine core faculty members teach undergraduate and graduate courses, perform individual and cross-department research and work with graduate students on thesis research. Central Michigan's total student enrollment of more than 27,000 students is the fourth largest among Michigan public universities and includes about 6,800 graduate students.

Michigan State University


Michigan State University's food science and human nutrition department is part of the agriculture and natural resources program, offering nationally recognized academic and research programs. Thirty-six faculty members teach undergraduate classes in dietetics, food science and nutritional sciences and teach and mentor graduate students in food science and human nutrition. The Michigan State student body totals nearly 50,000. Of those, food science and human nutrition counts 650 undergraduates and 45 graduate students.

The human nutrition program at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is part of the School of Public Health's environmental health sciences division. Graduate students can pursue a master of public health degree in nutrition, a master of science in nutrition or dietetics and a Ph.D. in human nutrition. Learn A Foreign Language At 50







Although children learn a new language easier, it is not impossible for a person over 50 to learn one.


Learning a foreign language can seem like a daunting task, and adults over 50 tend to feel that learning another language is close to impossible. It's true children learn a new language much easier, but that doesn't make it impossible for adults to learn also. It does take a lot of work and concentration, but the ability to speak another language is not out of reach. Choose an option that works best for you, remain optimistic and study hard.


Instructions








1. Enroll in a foreign language course with people your age. The curriculum in a class specifically for adults will be better adjusted to your needs. Adults also benefit more from working in groups, as they are less likely to get bored.


2. Hire a personal tutor. This is a slightly more expensive option, but you will have the teacher's undivided attention and will probably make faster progress. Sometimes fast-paced exercises are less successful with adult learners. A personal tutor will adjust the pace of work to your progress. Additionally, some tutors will come to your house, so you don't have to travel for your course.


3. Do it yourself. There are books, CDs, DVDs, podcasts and language-learning software, all created with the purpose of helping people to learn foreign languages. Pick a tool that will work best for you. For example, if you learn easiest through listening, get a CD or a podcast, but if you are the visual type, go for a book instead.


4. Vacation or go to a language school in another country. Many countries have schools designed for those who wish to learn a new language. This is a good way to study because it forces you to use the language on a day-to-day basis, making learning an active part of your life.

Balance School And Social Time

Being a good student doesn't mean you have to drop everything else. It's possible to have a healthy social life while earning good grades. It's all about balance, young grasshopper.


Instructions


1. Decide for yourself at the start of the term that you won't let schoolwork sweep you away. It's important to have this resolve as a foundation.


2. Plot out your weekly schedule on a grid. Chances are, you'll have small gaps between classes during the week, and longer stretches of free time on the weekends.


3. Focus in on those small gaps, and highlight them on your grid: It's here that you can do bits of schoolwork, leaving the larger weekend gaps free.


4. Set aside at least one large chunk of time each week for free time - maybe all of Saturday, for instance.


5. Make sure that every time you find yourself in one of those between-class gaps, you use the time efficiently: Read a few pages, run some quick errands, spell-check your paper.


6. Keep in mind the law of diminishing returns. Past a certain point, studying harder will yield little. You're better off using that time to hang out with friends.








7. Consider making rituals out of your transitions between school and social time - some people need this. Maybe just a walk around the block will do the trick. You're a student when you start your walk; you're a person when you return.








8. Encourage your friends to follow a similar plan, so you can coordinate your free time with theirs.
