Colleges Offering Courses In Csi

A CSI collects evidence from the crime scene.


Becoming a CSI (crime scene investigator) is a growing career choice due to the popularity of the TV show with the same title. CSI's duties are to document, identify and collect physical evidence at a crime scene. Individuals interested in this field should pursue a degree in forensic science. Science coursework is heavily emphasized in these programs and training can be completed through a law enforcement academy. CSIs with college or a graduate degree tend to have higher salaries and more opportunities.


University of Central Florida


The University of Central Florida, located in Orlando, offers two tracks in forensic science, an analysis track and biochemistry track. The University of Mississippi in Oxford offers a B.S. degree in forensic chemistry; its program is ranked in the top five forensic programs in the U.S. and is accredited by the American Society of Forensic Science. The program is part of the chemistry and biochemistry division in the College of Liberal Arts. There is a low student-to-faculty ratio and teachers take a multi-disciplinary approach. Colorado Technical University


Colorado Technical University offers a B.S. degree in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic investigation. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Aed

The advantages and disadvantages of an automatic electronic defibrillator, or AED, are varied depending on the setting. AED's can be effective instruments in treating cardiac problems before medical professionals arrive, but can be impractical in some applications. AED's are encouraged by the government, but mandatory laws vary from state to state.


SCA


Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition where the heart suddenly stops beating. Also known as a heart attack, SCA occurs when the electrical activity to the heart becomes disrupted and the heartbeat becomes overly fast and chaotic. This change in rhythm destroys your heart's ability to effectively pump blood, starving the brain and organs of oxygen and nutrients. SCA is most effectively treated with a shock from an AED within a few minutes of the SCA.


Public Use


AEDs are commonly kept in industrial and public areas to be accessible to as many people as possible. Many laws exist regarding the placement of AEDs in public buildings, but tend to vary from state to state. Survive Your First Week Of College

The first week of college can be overwhelming. You're on your own, starting at a new school, meeting a lot of new people, and you may not be able to keep everything straight.


Instructions


1. Get to know people. The people in your dorm are just as new as you are. They want to meet new people and make friends just as much as you do. Try talking to people often. Meeting new people gets easier with time and experience.


2. Talk to your residential advisor. If you ever need to know something or have a problem, your RA is a good resource. RA's are trained to do some counseling, and they know what you're going through.


3. Locate key places on campus. It's much easier to go to a place on campus if you know where it is. Go out and explore the campus and remember the building where your classes will be held, the student services building, stores and places to eat.


4. Get organized. When you unpack, put everything in a specific place. This way, if you're ever in a rush, you know where everything is and you don't have to look around for each item.


5. Set out everything you need for your classes: books, folders, pens and notebooks. Remember that some professors change their syllabus at the last minute and eliminate books they'd previously assigned. Write down this information and return/exchange the books as soon as you can.


6. Develop a routine. During your first week, it can be difficult to develop a routine, but try a few basics. Wake up at the same time everyday and try to go to sleep around the same time. If you develop the same sleeping pattern, you won't feel so tired when you wake up. Also, try eating around the same time or with familiar people. his way, if those people go to eat, they can ask you to come along and you'll have someone to talk to.


7. Communicate with yourr family. Just because you're in college doesn't mean that you need to be cut off completely from your family. Give them a call and tell them how everything is going. This can be comforting to both you and your family members.


8. Spend some time alone. Everyone needs some alone time, especially when undergoing your first week of college. Take a walk, relax in the library where it's quiet, or take advantage of the times when your roommate is in class.

Training to be a paramedic in Illinois is different than in many other states. Illinois is one of the few states that do not require you to pass the National Registry Exam to qualify for an EMT or paramedic license. Games To Play With Kids For Learning Letters

Letters are the building blocks of language. Teaching kids to be able to recognize and identify their letters at an early age will help prepare them for reading readiness. Bingo


Alphabet bingo is just like regular bingo, only letters are used rather than numbers. You can draw or print a simple bingo sheet by making a grid with five spaces across and six spaces down. Write B-I-N-G-O in the spaces across the top, and fill in letters at random in the grid. Shuffle a deck of alphabet flash cards and pick them at random, using pennies as markers.


Fishing


Cut out simple fish shapes, about 3 inches wide. Write a letter on each fish. Put a paper clip on each fish. Glue a magnet to the end of a 3-foot piece of yarn, and tie the other end to a stick. Lay the fish on the floor and have the child go "fishing" for the right letters.








Matching


Play a version of the old memory game "concentration" by turning flash cards over. Have the child search for letters by turning over the letters, trying to find the upper case and the lower case to make a match.


Board Games


Use some old board games, such as Scrabble or Word Boggle, to make up new games with your child. Instead of worrying about playing by the rules, instead try to put letters in sequence, or put a few in sequence with one letter missing and let the child figure out which one it is.


Computer


Sit with your child at the computer and play some fun, free alphabet games available online. Games for kids this age are colorful and interactive, with interesting things happening when children choose correctly (see Resources).

Difference Between First Degree & Premeditated Murder

First-degree and premeditated murder refer to the same crime. Under United States Code Title 18, Chapter 51, Section 1111, murder refers to the criminal act of taking a human's life with malice aforethought. "Aforethought" is the planning of the act, or premeditation. Any person who engages in a premeditated act that leads to the death of another is guilty of first-degree murder. Definitions and penalties vary by state, but the uniform components with first-degree murder are intent and premeditation.


Intent


Intent involves willfulness. This means the defendant must have a definite goal to kill. A specific victim is not necessary. Shooting into a crowd of people with the intention of killing constitutes first-degree murder. Killing the wrong person also constitutes first-degree murder.


Malice Aforethought








The defendant must possess four implied or conscious states of mind for first-degree murder. The defendant must intend to cause the unjustifiable death of a human being, inflict severe bodily harm, commit a felony, and knowingly commit the act with the knowledge it can lead to the death of another human being.








Premeditation


Due to the broadness of the concept of premeditation, courts weigh each situation on a case-by-case basis. Courts generally determine premeditation by examining whether the defendant had time to form intent and a cooling-off period occurred before the defendant committed the act. If there was sufficient time to cool off and rethink the decision to commit murder, premeditation exists.


The Pennsylvania Method


First -- degree murder requirements vary by state, but most states adhere to the Pennsylvania Method. Under this method, first-degree murder occurs when the defendant commits murder with willfulness, deliberateness and premeditation. First-degree murder also occurs during the commission of a heinous crime such as poisoning, lying in wait with the intent to murder by ambush, or committing murder during the commission of a felony such as arson, rape or robbery.


Punishments


Punishments for first-degree murder vary by state. Michigan punishes the crime by imprisoning the defendant for life. Other states impose the death penalty based on the number of aggravating factors. Illinois requires at least one of 21 aggravating factors such as the killing of a peace officer, two or more human beings or brutality or heinousness that resulted in the death of an individual under the age of 12. Wyoming imposes the death penalty when the murder occurred due to crimes such as arson, kidnapping or the abuse of a minor less than 16 years of age.

What Is The Medical Term Rsd

RSD, or reflex sympathetic dystrophy, is a chronic neurological disease that results from trauma to the sympathetic nervous system. It often causes burning, chronic pain and discoloration or swelling of the skin.


Names


RSD also is known as type I of complex regional pain syndrome.


Differences


RSD differs from type II of complex regional pain syndrome because there is no clearly identifiable nerve damage. In type II, a distinct nerve injury has occurred.








Symptoms








Burning or chronic pain in one or more limbs, discoloration or swelling of the skin and a limited range of motion are all symptoms that point toward RSD. A hypersensitivity to touch and muscle spasms have also been noted as symptoms.


Diagnosis


When the level of pain cannot be accounted for by other conditions or diseases, doctors begin to suspect that the patient has RSD. There is currently no single laboratory test that can diagnose RSD.


Treatment


Medications to control pain and muscle cramps can be administered. Physical therapy that involves range of motion exercises can also be given to help treat RSD. A sympathetic nerve block that targets the nerve or nerves responsible for causing pain can also be given if necessary, because it interrupts the transmission of pain from the affected nerve to the brain.


Stages


There are four stages of RSD. These are dysfunction, dystrophy, atrophy and eventual failure of the immune system.

Study A Novel

The study of the novel is a standard teaching option for most middle and high school Language Arts teachers. Even some upper elementary teachers may want to introduce their students to novel study in a grade appropriate way. Doing a novel study with students helps them develop a better appreciation for literature, increases their vocabulary and their overall comprehension skills.


Instructions


1. Choose a novel for its content, reading level and subject matter. The novel should be something that will appeal to most of your students in a variety of ways and also follow curriculum guidelines for your English department.








2. Consider novels that are new, have some connection with current events or are recent award winners. This will allow you to apply what students are reading more easily to their everyday lives.








3. Select a novel for its literary value. If you do more than one study a year be sure to include something literary that is considered a classic. This will challenge your students to a higher level of thinking.


4. Introduce your students to the novel by talking about the major characters, time period and what is happening in the world when the novel takes place. You can do this as a group discussion.


5. Assign a certain number of pages to be read each day to keep students ready for classroom discussion.


6. Put together a novel packet that includes vocabulary for each chapter, comprehension questions and an essay section. Use the essay section to allow students to make connections from the novel to their own lives, make predictions about what will happen next and synthesize information from the chapter.


7. Test students on their knowledge of the novel by assigning a project. Consider using the portfolio method throughout your study having students do their own writing to go along with the novel. Students should include poetry, slogans, summaries, short stories and drawings or photos for illustrations.

Osteologists study the skeletal system.


Osteology is the study of bone structure and function, whether human or animal. Osteology is used throughout the medical profession and also in other fields, including archaeology, paleontology and criminology.


Identification


Osteologists divide the skeleton into two parts: the axial or trunk, and the appendicular or limbs. Bones are divided into four categories: long, short, flat and irregular.


Features


Bones are considered either metric or non-metric. Metric bones can be measured and compared against similar bones, while non-metric bones often fuse with other bones and cannot be measured.








Significance


Bones can determine age, sex, likely race, general health and overall stature, plus the amount of time lapsed since death.


Considerations


Skulls allow osteologists to quickly determine animal type.

Complete certainty is rare. Sometimes there's no other choice but to formulate a guess based on knowledge and experience. Think about all the times when you had to guess and found yourself mentally gathering information and eliminating possibilities. 1. Read questions carefully if you are taking a test. In conversation, listen for the important details. To formulate an educated guess, you must have good information.


2. Rule out obvious bad choices. Eliminate the options, based on the information.


3. Pay attention to details. Look for a tip-off within a test question. Similarly, the answers may have clues.


4. Look for patterns. History does repeat itself. Use your experience in similar situations to predict the outcome of another.


5. Consider the simplest solution as the best. We often over-analyze and consider information that isn't relevant to the matter. This makes the process far more difficult. Keep it simple. Look for the obvious.


6. Use common knowledge. Practical wisdom goes a long way in making an educated guess. Use what you know.


7. Sign up for a review course. Take a class that offers tips and strategies for standardized tests. Many people receive higher test scores after participating.

Unlike medical and legal transcription, general transcription often does not require any extra schooling. Once you gather the necessary materials, you can opt to start your own general transcription business or look to an outside job. Many companies require transcription for educational lectures, business meetings and documenting important notes. Accuracy is one of the most important skills you will want to hone.


Instructions


1. Purchase a foot pedal. Foot pedals are not absolutely necessary, but they make transcribing much easier by allowing you to pause, play and maneuver through sound files while keeping your hands free for typing.


2. Purchase a noise-canceling headset. A good quality headset makes transcribing much easier. Bose is a popular, but pricier choice. Check your local electronics store for a starter headset if you are not ready to spend a lot of money.








3. Download transcription software. Express Scribe is a popular choice that is a free download. You can set your foot pedal up in Express Scribe and it will play many sound file types.


4. Practice transcribing. You can create your own voice files to practice off of. You could also practice off of other files such as audio books or podcasts. The more you practice, the better your "ear" will become. Practice with some ESL dictators, if possible, as a lot of companies like hearing you have experience with foreign dictators.


5. Search for jobs that include general transcription duties. Many office jobs require general transcription as a job duty. If you want to do nothing but transcribe, search job sites for general transcription specifically. General transcription can be done from home as well, so check freelance websites, such as Elance. Work-at-home forums are another great source for tips and feedback about companies.

A research methods course can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with graduate level scholarly work. Reading Scientific Research

There are many ways to construct a study. There are different sampling methods, group construction designs and types of analysis you can conduct. Focus on the designs you are most likely to use in your field. Remember that as a graduate researcher, you will likely be working with other students, or even faculty, when conducting an actual research study. You can use your combined knowledge to help construct your research design. A good place to start is by studying the designs used by other researchers in published articles. Note how studies were put together as you are conducting your review of the literature and learning to read scientific articles. Look at the sampling techniques, the variables measured, the construction of the groups and how data was analyzed.








Designing a Mock Study


It is not unusual for students to have to design a mock study in a graduate level research methods course. One example of such a project is to design the entire study up to the point just before data collection begins. This means you have to write the introduction, statement of the problem, identify the hypothesis or research questions, define your sampling technique and research design, and identify the analysis methods and tools you plan on using. This can be a challenging project if you are not used to this sort of work. However, it is an important step in your graduate career as reading, planning, and writing studies will be important. Scholarships If My Parents Are Handicapped







Some scholarships support students whose parents have handicaps or disabilities.


When a student's parents have a handicap or a debilitating medical condition, the student might qualify for scholarships to support families coping with ongoing disabilities. Students can apply for financial support through general scholarships, programs for a specific handicap or disability, scholarships for veterans' families, school-specific scholarships and other opportunities.


Scholarships with Broad Criteria


While many scholarships designate a particular handicap or disability in their criteria for financial assistance, the Through the Looking Glass scholarship program provides college aid to students whose parents face a variety of handicaps and disabilities. Through the Looking Glass accepts applications from students who can discuss their experiences in growing up with parents who have disabilities and the effect of their experiences on their lives.


Parent with Specific Physical Handicap


Some scholarship programs give financial aid to students whose parents have specific handicaps. A nonprofit organization or scholarship program may selectively offer assistance to only students whose parents have one particular handicap such as blindness or deafness. The Children of Deaf Adults organization, for example, helps hearing children whose parents are deaf through its Millie Brother Scholarship. The Blinded Veterans Association assists the children of blind parents as long as their parents also have records of military service. A student should search for scholarships that fit his family's circumstances.


Parent with Specific Illness


Some scholarship programs provide support for families dealing with the long-term illnesses or medical conditions of parents. A scholarship program might choose to focus its resources on students whose parents suffers from one specific illness. For example, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a scholarship program to fund college for children with parents who have multiple sclerosis. In addition, the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center Scholarship Fund supports college students who have parents with hemophilia.


Veteran-Parent


A student with a parent who served in the U.S. military might qualify for scholarships providing financial aid to the children of veterans. Some scholarships specifically support the dependents of veterans with specific physical conditions or handicaps. For example, the Blinded Veterans Association manages the Kathern F. Gruber Scholarship Program to support the dependents of blind veterans. In addition, the Paralyzed Veterans of America organization offers a scholarship programs for children of paralyzed veterans. To qualify, the paralyzed veteran's dependent must be unmarried and younger than age 24.


School-Specific Scholarships








A student should also contact the financial aid office or disability-support-services office of the college where she attends school or plans to enroll because many institutions offer school-specific opportunities or can direct students to local resources. For example, Gadsden State Community College in Alabama recommends the Children of Blind Parents tuition scholarship to support students who come from households with at least one parent who is blind. The scholarship opportunity comes through Alabama's Department of Education.

3. Use the second tab, "Quick Payment Calculator," to find out a monthly payment. This information is useful to see if the monthly payment is within your budget, if you are considering taking out a loan.


4. Fill in your specific loan information on the third tab, "Loan Amortization." Amortized payments are calculated by dividing the principal balance by the number of months allotted for repayment. Then interest is calculated at the fixed rate your loan is locked in to. Each payment reduces a percentage of the interest first, with the balance of the payment reducing the principal. Do You Have To Pay Back Unsubsidized Loans

Whether your loan is a subsidized loan such as a Stafford loan, an unsubsidized loan from the Department of Education or a commercial student loan, it's still a loan. That means that, unlike scholarships or grants, you must pay off the balance at some point in your life as well as repaying the interest that accumulates on the loan's principal. Because you'll need to repay your unsubsidized loan after you graduate, you shouldn't accept unsubsidized loans unless it's vital to finance your education.








Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Loans


The U.S. Department of Education grants two types of Stafford loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. You must repay the principal with interest on both types of loan. If a student enrolls in the military, becomes a teacher or becomes involved in other forms of qualifying public service, the Department of Education forgives the loan -- either in full or in part, depending upon the type of commitment -- and students don't need to repay it.


Commercial Loans


When a student can't qualify for enough support in loans from the Department of Education, he may turn to commercial lenders to help finance his education. These loans typically charge a higher interest rate than federal loans, and, because they're not subsidized by Education Department funding, usually feature repayment policies that are more restrictive than their non-commercial counterparts. Because banks provide these loans to turn a profit, not invest in students' future, you'll expected to repay them as if they were any other type of commercial loan.


Loan Repayment Strategy








The type of loans a student receives while in college may affect his approach to repaying his loans. As with any form of debt, a student should devote all his excess loan payments to the loan with the highest interest rate first to lessen the impact of interest charges. If a student took out high amounts of unsubsidized commercial loans, he may be better served to repay all his lenders using a single consolidation loan if he can locate one with an interest rate lower than what he pays on his other loans.

Knowledge of Latin medical terms is essential for verbal and written communication.








Learning medical Latin is very valuable when preparing to enroll in medical school or health-related professional training programs. Equally valuable is learning Greek word roots, prefixes and suffixes used in medical terminology. Because Latin is not a living language, you will have a hard time finding courses that teach only medical Latin, though it is covered very thoroughly in medical terminology courses. Books, CDs, audio tapes, computer programs and online programs are available for teaching yourself Latin and Greek terms related to medicine.


Instructions


1. Decide how, where and when you want to learn. If you feel like you will perform better and gain more knowledge by attending a course taught by an on-site instructor, contact your local vocational school or college and enroll in a course on medical terminology. 4. Bring your wife and children with you to America since a H1B allows this, as long as they additionally obtain an independent H4 visa.


The H2B Work Visa

11. Learn about the L1 visa program that allows someone working for a corporation in another country to transfer working to the same company in America. The company doesn't get this for you so you'll have to fill out the I-129 form at the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services office.
