Diy Cd Jukebox

Use your computer to personally create music for your jukebox system.

Making a genuine jukebox is not rocket science, but if you want to duplicate the manufacturing process, you can expect to make a huge investment of your time and money. Instead, if you own a Windows PC, you can use its multipurpose hardware and software to emulate jukebox functions. Your computer's finished casing is similar to the treated wooden frame on a jukebox. The spinning hard drive, LCD display monitor and sound card in your PC can mimic the CD-disk changer, flashing lights and speakers inside a jukebox. The only major task left for you to perform is to configure and customize your modern PC-based jukebox system.

Instructions

Capture Music for the Jukebox

1. Click "Start" on the taskbar at the bottom of the Windows desktop. Type "Media Player" in the search box at the bottom of the "Start" menu. Press "Enter" to open Windows Media Player (WMP). Insert a music CD into the computer's drive.

2. Click "Rip CD." The WMP application will automatically rip your songs from the CD and store the files on the hard drive in your computer. Look for the progress bar to move from the left to right, indicating ripping is complete.

3. Repeat the previous two steps for each CD in your music collection. After you have ripped all of your albums/songs to the hard drive, click on "View" at the top of WMP. Select "Library" and then you can view and verify that you have captured all of your music. Leave WMP open.

Organize Your Jukebox Music Collection

4. Click "View" and then select "Library" if WMP is in "Now Playing" mode. Click the "Play" tab in the right pane of the application. You will also see a general playlist menu in the left pane and your list of songs in the center pane.

5. Click on a song or groups of songs to highlight the file. Drag and drop the file(s) into the blank area of the "Play" tab in the right pane. Continue scrolling down the center pane to find more songs and drag your choices into the right pane until you are finished. Also, drag and drop the files within right pane to change the order in which they will play in the jukebox.

6. Click "Save List" in the right pane. Type in a name for your playlist in the active text box with the blinking cursor, such as "My Ripped CDs Jukebox Collection." Press "Enter" to save the name and exit the text box. Leave WMP open.

Use Your Jukebox

7. Click "View" and then select "Library" if WMP is in "Now Playing" mode. Click "Playlist" in the left pane to expand the selection. Right-click on the name of your playlist and then select "Play" from the menu. WMP will start playing your ripped CD collection.

8. Click "View" at the top of WMP and then select "Now Playing." This will transition WMP to only show media information for the song that is currently playing, such as a picture of the artist or band. Click the "rectangular" icon in the top right corner of WMP to maximize the window. The song and its associated album art/images will take over your entire screen.

9. Right-click anywhere in the WMP window to show a pop-up menu. Choose from "Visualizations," Enhancements" or "Lyrics, Captions, or Subtitles." For example, choosing the latter option will display lyrics to your songs as they play, if that information is available.

10. Move a laptop computer to the center or in another prominent place in the room so that it mimics the placement of a traditional jukebox. If you are using a desktop with a monitor, carefully turn the screen and speakers toward the audience.
