Second Degree Nursing Schools

People who have degrees in a non-nursing field can still obtain a BSN.

There are several paths into a career as a registered nurse (RN). Some nurses begin with an associate's degree, but more and more nurses are starting their careers with bachelors of science in nursing (BSN).There are also programs specifically for those who want to become a nurse but who already have a bachelor's degree in another discipline. Called "second-degree nursing programs," they allow aspiring nurses to get their nursing training and license without having to obtain another degree from scratch.

Loma Linda University

Loma Linda University's School of Nursing has an accelerated BSN program for students who already have a BA or a BS in another area. Students must have completed a list of prerequisite courses which include introduction to physics, anatomy and physiology, sociology, public speaking, microbiology and nine credit hours of English composition before enrollment. Loma Linda also has a fast track to a master of science in nursing for students who have a BA/BS degree in another field, with the same prerequisites. Students must have a minimum of a 3.3 cumulative grade point average in prerequisite classes in order to qualify for the accelerated programs.
