Apply for Education Grants for Older Adults
It has become commonplace for 60-, 70- and 80-somethings to start businesses, run triathlons and romance the opposite sex with as much enthusiasm as their kids and grandkids. College? You bet. It might be time to finish what you started before kids and mortgages came along. Whatever your circumstance, don't let a lack of cash stop you from heading to school now that you have the time to study. Expect an extra benefit along the way: School is known to boost mental acuity in seniors so grab your books and your dreams and head for campus.
Instructions
1. Review your current financial status to get a clear picture of your grant worthiness. Expect to compete with seniors of all socio-economic strata for funds once you start the application process. Apply for multiple grants so even if you're eliminated from consideration for having too many assets you'll still be a great candidate for others.
2. Research all kinds of grants as you never know which might be the ideal fit. Investigate senior-specific, government, private and nonprofit granting sources and, if you qualify for one or more, pursue grant opportunities offered only to exclusive categories of people such as ethnic groups, women or folks with disabilities or special needs.
3. Request application packets from the grant agencies you've identified as viable. Review the checklist describing the background material you'll be required to submit with your application. Make note of the deadline date. Contact the granting agency if you have questions or concerns about anything on the form rather than guessing or leaving a field blank.
4. Write the essay most grantors require for consideration. Explain why you deserve to receive their funds and how you intend to use the money for your education should you be selected. Load your essay with accomplishments.
5. Have family members and friends review your applications and accompanying documents before submitting them to make sure they are free of errors.
6. Sign your application and post your paperwork before the deadline. Send each package "return receipt requested" to confirm arrival at the granting agency.
