Study For The Ece World Population Exam

Excelsior College Examinations, also known as ECEs, offer individuals the opportunity to earn college credits through exams in a number of subjects. College students at schools that participate in the ECE program can satisfy program requirements by taking an ECE subject exam, and high school seniors have the chance to earn college credits through the ECE. The World Population Exam is a 120-question multiple-choice test administered by Excelsior College, which evaluates your knowledge of subject matter taught in a sociology world population or geography course. Prepare for this exam by using the company's study resources.

Instructions

1. Visit the Excelsior College website (excelsior.edu) and click "Credit by Exam" at the top of the page. Click "Books, Study Guides & Exam Resources" on the left side of the page.

2. Click "Browse the Content Guides" under the "Content Guides" heading and select "World Population" from the list of Non-Nursing Exam Guides.

3. Review the exam format and content guide. You have two hours to complete the exam, which is taken on a computer. Your score is reported as a letter grade, and most institutions require a "C" grade or higher for you to obtain credits. The test covers seven content areas: overview of the world's population and demographic resources, demographic perspectives, fertility, mortality, migration and urbanization, case studies on the future of population, and population issues. Some content areas are weighted more heavily than others; the content guide breaks this down by percentage. You will probably want to plan your study time accordingly.

4. Plan your study time by treating your ECE exam the same way you would a college-level course. For example, in a typical three-credit course, you may study an hour a day for a total of seven hours a week. A normal school semester lasts approximately 15 weeks, so multiply nine hours by 15 weeks to arrive at 135 total hours needed to study for your world population exam.

5. Obtain a practice exam on the ECE website and test yourself. Score your results to determine the weak areas in which you need to focus your studying.

6. Buy the recommended resources listed in the content guide. These are books and references that contain concepts and theories that will be on the exam. The titles include "Population" by J. Weeks and "China's Population: New Trends and Challenges" by Nancy E. Riley.

7. Click "Find books for specific exams" under the "Books" heading on the "Books, Study Guides and Exam Resources" page. Click "Order Your Books," then click "Excelsior - Examinations Includes ASN Exams" under "Select Program" and click "Continue." Select "Examinations - General" and click "Continue," then select "World Population" and "Continue" to obtain a list of additional books you can purchase to help you study for the exam.

8. Divide your study time based on each content area of the exam. For example, take one week to study migration and urbanization using the recommended resources and the results of your practice exam. Focus on the areas in which you are weak. The next week, shift to mortality and go through the same process. This gives you a chance to study each content area twice on a 15-week study schedule.

9. Work through sample questions on the ECE website and by visiting the Internet to obtain free exam questions. This will help improve your knowledge for each content area.

10. Take another practice exam to test your overall knowledge. Continue to focus on the weak areas, until your scores improve, which indicates you are ready to take the world population exam.
