Here's what you'll need to know to become an emergency medical technician in Kentucky.

1. Visit the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services website to find a list of emergency medical technician classes and locations across the state.
2. Near the end of the EMT course, you will need to fill out an application and attach to it a copy of your driver's license, proof of high school diploma or GED, and a form requesting a criminal background check. There is also a $10 application fee.
3. Within two weeks of finishing the EMT course, you should submit the documents required by the state of Kentucky to complete your application. This includes a testing eligibility fee, a $25 processing fee, certification of CPR and HIV/AIDS training and the results from your practical skills test.
4. The final step in getting certified in the state of Kentucky is to take the national exam offered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). You must apply for the exam and pay the required fee. Once you are approved to take the test, you will receive an "authorization to test" letter, which will include the information you need to register with Pearson VUE to actually take the test.
5. After the state of Kentucky has received your test score from NREMT, you can officially be certified as an EMT in Kentucky.
