Canadian colleges and universities cost money, but students can save money by applying for Canadian scholarships. Canadian scholarships can help you attend a college or university that would otherwise be outside of your budget without a scholarship.
Instructions
1. Contact the financial aid office at the Canadian university you are attending or will be enrolled in. There will be both internal scholarships (funded by your university) and external scholarships in the community that your financial aid advisor can connect you with. These scholarships are generally the least competitive and the easiest to apply for.
2. Pick up a government scholarship application from your local Provincial and Territorial Student Financial Assistance Office. The federal government of Canada offers various bursaries, grants and scholarships that are distributed to students directly through the provincial governments.
3. Search the Government of Canada's Canadian scholarship database, issued through a partnership with studentawards.com.
4. Research private Canadian scholarships, many of which are degree-specific or for students of certain year standing (such as freshmen or sophomores).
5. Make yourself as attractive for Canadian scholarships as possible. Volunteer for nonprofit organizations and get involved in as much community service as possible. Focus on volunteer work that highlights your skills and fits with your future career goals. Many Canadian scholarship committees will look for volunteer service as a criteria for scholarships.
