Arkansas Nursing Scholarships

Arkansas nursing students can take advantage of numerous scholarship opportunities.

A career in nursing can be emotionally and financially rewarding. Unfortunately for many students, the costs associated with earning a nursing degree can be a significant roadblock to success. For Arkansas residents, financial support is available in the form of numerous scholarship programs. These programs are designed to enable Arkansas nursing students to pursue their goals and make a career in nursing both affordable and attainable.

Bilingual Nursing Scholarship Initiative

The Northwest Arkansas Nursing Education Consortium sponsors the Bilingual Nursing Scholarship Initiative in an effort to increase the number of bilingual students entering nursing programs. To qualify for a scholarship, you must be a resident of Springdale or Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and be completing your high school diploma or equivalency. You must be proficient in English and either Spanish, Marshallese or Vietnamese. Individual award amounts vary depending on program funding and individual need.

UAMS College of Nursing Scholarships

The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences College of Nursing offers multiple scholarship opportunities for enrolled students. As of 2011, undergraduate students may apply for endowed scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full tuition. Graduate and doctoral students may apply for awards ranging from $1,000 to $1,500.

Tuition forgiveness and discount programs are also available for UAMS employees or students who commit to working at the university following graduation. Students are considered primarily on academic achievement, although financial need may be used to determine eligibility and individual award amounts.

Arkansas State University College of Nursing Scholarships

Nursing students at Arkansas State University may take advantage of numerous scholarships available at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Sister Patricia Lee Findley Memorial Scholarship is available to a full-time junior or senior who is also a member of the Arkansas State Nursing Association.

The Bill Penix Jr. Memorial Scholarship is available to students enrolled in the master's of nursing program. As of 2011, award amounts for these scholarships varied based on funding.

A $3,000 scholarship is also available for nursing students who plan to enter the Army, Army Reserve or National Guard or who are the dependents of a current Army, Army Reserve or National Guard member.

Arkansas State Board of Nursing Scholarships

The Arkansas State Board of Nursing offers both scholarship and loan forgiveness programs for residents who are enrolled or planning to enroll in an in-state nursing program. The ThinkNurse Scholarship Program is available to both part-time and full-time students who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and can demonstrate active involvement in student nursing organizations or community health programs.

The Faith A. Fields Nursing Scholarship Program is available to students pursuing a course of study leading to a career as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or nurse educator. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need to qualify.

As of 2011, eligible students receive up to $20,000 in scholarship funding over the course of their enrollment. Recipients must agree to work as a licensed nurse in Arkansas following graduation.
