Plenty of free grant money exists, but you have to ask for it. You can fill out an application online to apply for grants that may suit your particular need. Grants are available from several sources including government, non-profit, education and public housing organizations. Grants are given to help all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons. Instructions
1. Determine the type of grant to apply for by evaluating your needs. Do you need the money to buy a house, start a business or further your education? Are you applying for a personal grant or are you applying on behalf of an organization? Be specific in determining your needs. Different grant applications will require specific information according to the type of grant. Being specific will narrow your search.
2. Search the internet for a listing of free grants. Grants.gov allows the user to search available grants by category or agency. You can also perform an advanced search by narrowing the perimeters according to dates, eligibility, agencies and funding types. The website also lists other resources such as loans for starting a small business and student loans.
3. Read the synopsis and application thoroughly before filling it out. Be certain that the grant you are interested in obtaining includes individuals as eligible applicants. Some grants are open only to agencies and non-profit organizations.
4. Fill out the application completely once you have determined that you meet the eligibility requirements. Be certain to fill in all of the required information. Applications that are not filled out correctly or completely are likely to be rejected.
5. Apply for more than one grant. You may apply for several different grants as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. Applying for more than one grant may increase your chances of acceptance.
6. Be patient. Once you have completed and submitted your grant applications, allow time for the information to be reviewed before receiving a reply. It may take a few weeks or a couple of months before you receive the decision.
