Scholarships For Black Women Over 40

Black women over 40 can find scholarships to help with tuition.

If you are a black woman over age 40, you may qualify for scholarships as a woman, scholarships as a black person, scholarships as a black woman over age 40 and scholarships for non-traditional students, which are generally defined as students who are older, returning to school after a hiatus or returning to school as a parent. Finding scholarships for college can be a daunting task, but there is a lot of free money to be had out there. Narrowing your search by factors such as ethnicity, gender and age will help you find results faster.

Jeanette Ranking Foundation Grants for Low-Income Women

This scholarship is as narrowly defined as a scholarship can be --- it is reserved for black women who live in high-poverty areas and are over 35 years of age. Applicants must be able to communicate or cast a vision that will have an impact on society in a substantial way and must be pursuing a technical or vocational education, associates' degree or a first bachelor's degree. Interested women can read complete eligibility requirements and apply online at rankinfoundation.org.

Dr. Wynetta A. Frazier Scholarship

The National Hook-up of Black Women offers two categories of scholarships annually, one of which is called the Dr. Wynette A. Frazier "Sister to Sister" Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to single or divorced black women who are at least 25 years old and are returning to college. Candidates may have dropped out of college to care for children. The National Hook-up realizes these women have added responsibilities that the traditional student does not and so offer a scholarship to aid their educational pursuits. Interested applicants can read more online at nhbwinc.com. Local chapters provide scholarships too so interested women should check their local Hook-Up chapter to see if they offer a scholarship to non-traditional students.
