Ways to check if a Drivers License is authentic without calling to confirm.

1. This is level of information becomes important, not only in bars, but anywhere a party is being held. Have an image in your head of the information that should be present on a Driver's License (Date of Birth, Address, Full Name, Picture). This is important to understanding standards and provides ways to quiz the individual at question should you not have the tools to properly check the Driver's License. 3. Next you want to make sure you have the proper tools at your disposal, to make you task as easy as possible. The first and most easy to use tool is the barcode scanner. They can be acquired from as low as $50 to $150. You want to make sure it is specifically designed for checking identification, not items on a store shelf. They are available from a variety of electronics companies, so don't hesitate to shop around.
4. The Barcode Scanner does not always work, because it cannot detect all Driver's Licenses. Certain driver's licenses don't even scann, despite having barcodes, notably Georgia and Delaware. In this event it is good to have a back up option. The best tool is a hand held black light. This works because a majority of driver's licenses have holograms on them. Mostly these either consist of the state emblem, or a list of the counties. If this tool is unavailable, simply stand under a light and tilt the identification away from you to see the hologram.
