College fairs are informal events where students and their parents can explore the different opportunities available at a variety of educational institutions. Each college has a booth manned by a representative of the college who is there to answer your questions. College fairs are organized by local and national organizations, so each college fair may feature different educational institutions.
Instructions
1. Ask your guidance department for a list of college fairs in your area. A schedule of institutions participating in National Association for College Admission Counseling fairs can be found on the NACAC website.
2. Consider what type of educational institution appeals to you. Consider factors such as size, location, activities and fields you are interested in studying.
3. Review the colleges and universities attending the college fair you plan to attend. Research attending schools using your college criteria. Place the schools that match your criteria on a "must see" list.
4. Grab your parents and a friend and attend the college fair. Most college fairs are free of charge but registration may be required at the door. Remember to pick up a bag and fair directory at the registration desk.
5. Seek out the colleges on your "must see" list first. Ask questions that are of interest to you. College fairs are where you gather information on colleges; the colleges will gather information on you soon enough.
6. Gather information to review once you return home. Make notes on the brochures you have gathered such as the name of the college representative and any further questions you may have concerning the school.
7. Attend any informational presentations available at the fair. Better yet, send your parents to the informational session and continue to explore the college fair. You may find a school you never knew existed but is just right for you.
