The School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany offers both masters and doctoral level degrees. U.S. News & World Report ranked this school's graduate criminal justice program second in the United States. The M.A. degree requires 30 credit hours of course work as well as passing a comprehensive exit exam. This program is for students who are currently working or seeking to work in the criminal justice system, as well as those who intended to earn a Ph.D. at a later date. Completing the Ph.D. program requires 60 hours of course work, passing a comprehensive exit exam and presenting and defending a research dissertation.

University of Cincinnati
The Division of Criminal Justice at University of Cincinnati was established in 1970, and has since become one of the premier departments in the United States. U.S. News & World Report ranked it third nationally in its 2010 ranking of graduate criminology programs. The school offers both master's and doctoral degrees. Requirement for the master's program are a baccalaureate degree from any accredited institution, a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, acceptable GRE scores, two letters of recommendation and a written personal statement.
