Precollege Art Scholarships

Pre-college art programs can assist in your acceptance to an art college.

Pre-college art programs are a way to explore the art field before actually entering college. Some universities and colleges offer pre-college art scholarships (merit and financial aid).

Wondering if you qualify? You must be a high school student with above average grades, show a proficiency in art and have a promising art portfolio. Be aware that competition will be intense.

Carnegie Mellon School of Art

Architecture is among the pre-college offerings at this art school.

This prestigious university offers pre-college programs in: art, architecture, design, drama and music.

You will be asked to submit an essay on the art classes you've taken, the reason why you want a scholarship, as well as a letter of recommendation from an art teacher.

Other colleges will request similar information.

You must fill out all applications and submit a portfolio of six recent works. For the 2010 year, applications must be received by May 1.

If you are interested in the Carnegie Mellon School of Art financial aid scholarship, you must send your application with a Family Financial Data Sheet and W-2 forms, also by May 1, 2010.
