Vet School Scholarships

Get a scholarship to vet school and help care for animals.

While veterinary medicine is a rewarding and fulfilling career choice for those who love animals, competition to get into vet school is rigorous. Those accepted must find a way to pay for their education. Numerous scholarships are available, most based on financial need, area of interest and academic record.

Veterinary Scholarship Trust of New England

This nonprofit organization's mission is providing funds to assist veterinary students in the New England states. It distributes several scholarships annually. Applicants must be New England residents for the previous five years or graduates of a New England public high school. Veterinarians licensed to practice in New England who know the applicant personally must sign applications. Actual veterinary schools may be located anywhere in the United States. Submit completed applications before February 1 of each year.

American Kennel Club

Veterinary students who have shown or otherwise been involved in the purebred dog show may apply for the American Kennel Club's (AKC) veterinary student scholarships. Academic achievement is the main criterion for the awarding of scholarships. All accredited United States veterinary schools receive application materials annually, and the AKC asks that each school select four potential scholarship candidates. Applications cannot be accepted from individual veterinary students. Contact the veterinary school's financial aid office for information and consideration.

U.S. Army Veterinary Corps

Serve your country and fulfill your dream of becoming a veterinarian. The F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program grants full-tuition scholarships along with living stipends for qualified applicants. Applicant must be U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited veterinary school in the United States. They must also meet criteria for eligibility as appointed officers in the United States Army Reserve. Upon graduation and beginning active duty, veterinarians are commissioned as captains for the three-year active-duty obligation.

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for eligible candidates. Most awards depend on financial need, with some having special criteria. The Anna Anderson Scholarship Fund award goes to students interested in wildlife and working with small animals. The Elizabeth Anne Baldwin Scholarship Fund awards funds to women planning to work in a small-animal practice. The Cats, Plain and Fancy Scholarship Fund is given to students concentrating in feline medicine.
