Stanford University is one of the nation's premier universities


California has many great universities throughout the entire state. Many of these universities, such as Berkley and UCLA, belong to the University of California public university system. However, there are many private universities with rich histories and renowned faculties. These private institutions include Stanford University, The California Institute of Technology, The University of Southern California, and Pomona College.


Stanford University


Stanford University is located on a 8,180-acre campus in the Bay Area approximately 30 miles from San Francisco. The university was founded in 1885 and has approximately 6,602 undergraduate students. Stanford is consistently ranked among the nation's top overall universities and has a renowned faculty and research programs. University of Southern California


The University of Southern California (USC) is located on a 226-acre campus in downtown Los Angeles. USC is currently, as of 2010, ranked among the nation's top universities. USC is well-known for its Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and its highly esteemed School of Cinematic Arts which has produced famous directors such as Judd Apatow and George Lucas. Harvey Mudd


Harvey Mudd is located in Claremont, California approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Founded in 1955, Harvey Mudd is a relatively young university. Regardless, Harvey Mudd is ranked as one of the nation's top math, science, and engineering universities. Thus, Harvey Mudd has renowned professors conducting innovative research.
