Batesville is the county seat of Independence County, Arkansas. With about 10,000 residents, it is the county's most populous city. The city is as a regional manufacturing and distribution center for northeast Arkansas. The second oldest town in the state, Batesville is named for James Woodson Bates, who was the first delegate from Arkansas to the U.S. Congress. The city has one community college.

Pulaski Technical College
With a campus just north of Little Rock, Pulaski Technical College is an option about a 1-hour drive from Batesville. Pulaski offers a community and technical college with more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs. The curriculum is set both for students with plans to transfer to a four-year university and those who are looking for workforce training in a number of areas. There are actually seven different campus locations sprinkled throughout the Little Rock area. Also available for interested Batesville students is the Pulaski aviation school at North Little Rock Airport.

Heritage College
For students in Batesville who are more interested in a degree or certificate program that will take them to a career field at the end of their community college experience, Heritage College in Little Rock is an option. Heritage College's curriculum is not designed for the four-year university prep student, but more for the student who wants to receive an education for a specific technical career. The school provides career training in fields that serve the field of medicine and health. Degrees are offered in x-ray medical technology, personal fitness trainer, medical assistant, pharmacy technician and massage therapy.
