Draw Home Mechanical Plans

Making a mechanical drawing of your home plans will help the contractor or architect get a good idea of what you want.

Drawing a diagram of mechanical plans to build or expand a home is an essential part of the architectural process. It is a necessary prerequisite to the actual construction so that the builders can see what the homeowner wants. A mechanical drawing shows where each room is meant to be and where to display a plumbing plan for bathrooms and kitchens. You don't have to be a great artist to achieve this but must clearly mark what should go where. You can make your own mechanical drawings for a home plan.

Instructions

1. Sketch an outline of your home plans by drawing the layout of the house. Use a pencil and paper from a sketch pad, and a ruler for straight lines, if necessary. Make sure your drawing is large enough so that you can include any fixture schedules, legends and any other related details. Draw various squares, rectangles and circles or ovals to represent rooms and items.

2. Use your pencil to distinguish what each room is and include markings for any major appliances, exterior and interior walls and plumbing fixtures as well. Draw a specific shape to represent each of these items.

3. Draw the water supply line from its source to the house, and then draw all of the fixtures. Make these items distinguishable in the drawing by making darker or thicker lines so that they stand out.

4. Draw the disposal system of your house. Distinguish this as a drain leading to the outside of the house. This includes any vents or pipes that let out water during rain storms.

5. Sketch a legend that includes symbols to more easily distinguish each item in your mechanical drawing. Add any pertinent notes, scales and a drawing title. Double-check the dimensions and your checklist.
