Nomination letters act as your resume for an award. Make sure the person writing it is someone you respect and someone who can write well.
For awards like teacher of the year or employee of the month, you will need to be nominated by a colleague. That colleague will have to write a letter of nomination to present to the person or committee that is deciding who will win the award. This letter should be written by someone who knows you personally and can provide specific examples of what makes you the best candidate. Sometimes people will not immediately take the initiative to write a letter of nomination for another, so if you wish to be nominated for an award here is what you should do.
Instructions
1. Make a list of colleagues that you have worked with the longest, and that know you well personally and professionally.
2. Talk to the people on your list in a casual setting. For example, you can go out to lunch together or have drinks after work. You don't want to come off as pushy. They will not be as inclined to write the letter if you do.
3. Tell the colleagues you talk to that you are interested in the award and why you think you deserve to win it. This gives them added information that they can use if they decide to write the letter of nomination.
4. Ask them to write the letter. It is not rude to ask if they don't offer after you have told them of your interest. Explain to them why you would like them to write the letter. For example you can talk about your work history together. They can accept or refuse, but whatever they do decide always be polite and courteous, as you should be to a colleague.
