Calculus is the discipline of mathematics that is primarily taught as the highest-level math course in high school and is a vital prerequisite for colleges. Calculus focuses mostly on the principles of derivatives, functions, integrals and limits. When learning any mathematics equation, it is most helpful to learn from example. Calculus textbooks provide examples in each lesson, but sometimes you may be stuck on a particular problem for which you feel unable to determine the solution. Luckily, several resources for understanding and finding solutions for calculus problems are available online and through study groups and your school.
Instructions
1. Review the lessons and your notes until you understand solve the problem. Try visiting your teacher or professor before class to check your answer. If you solved the problem incorrectly, the teacher will help you understand what you did wrong and successfully solve the problem. Never feel afraid to get help from an instructor until you fully comprehend solve a calculus problem.
2. See if the answer is located in a "Solutions" section in the back of your textbook. Math books commonly have answers in the back of the book, usually for only odd-numbered problems. Instructors typically assign problems that do not have the answers in the book. However, there is often a similar problem to the one you are having trouble with that does have the solution. Try to figure out how that problem was solved using the answer. Then, use that comprehension to determine the correct solution to the problem that is giving you difficulty.
3. Use resources online that provide problems and solutions. Try to find a problem similar to the one you are having trouble with. Some helpful websites include Calculus 1: Problems and Solutions, Free Calculus Tutorials and Problems, and Calculus Resources (See Resources).
4. Use calculus software for your computer that allows you to enter the problem and shows you how it should be solved.
