A doctorate degree is a necessity for many high-level positions in the field of psychology. Competition to gain admittance into most Ph.D. programs is stiff. You will be competing with the nation's brightest students for relatively few positions. To be successfully admitted, you must be willing to work hard and be prepared.
Instructions
1. Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) the fall before you wish to begin the Ph.D. program to ensure the scores will be available for your admissions process. The GRE consists of a general test that measures analytical, verbal quantitative skills and a psychology test. Prepare for the GRE buy purchasing books and a preparation course. High scores are required for entry into most Ph.D. programs.
2. Order transcripts of your academic records from your bachelor's and Master's degrees from the colleges where you earned them. Transcripts must be the original copiesm
3. Request letters of recommendation from professors and the head of any research projects you participated in. Your letters should state your achievement and strong desire to work in the field of psychology.
4. Make an appointment with an admissions counselor at your favorite schools. Ask if there are tips or things you should be aware of during the application process.
5. Complete your application. Include all required information and send in a timely manner.
