Surgical nurse practitioners specialize in pre- and post-surgical treatment of patients.
The field of nursing is in need of competent professionals to fill jobs that were predicted to grow by at least 22 percent between 2008 and 2018. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' projection for the growth of the nursing field continues to remain positive, as this statistic indicates. Nursing professionals who have specialized training as nurse practitioners will have a significant advantage in the job market, where there is likely to be a strong need for providers of primary care. Some schools now offer opportunities to gain this specialized training through online nurse practitioner and degree programs.
