Texas Farming Grants

Texas farms

In Texas, the lead producer of cattle and a major producer of dairy products in the United States, farming grants are available to individual farmers and business owners who wish to improve the agricultural economy and infrastructure of Texas. Texas awards grants to innovators, to young farmers, and to those who wish to bring new industries, such as wine growing, to the state of Texas.

Young Farmer Grant

Farmers between the ages of 18 and 46 who wish to create or expand agriculture in Texas can apply for the Young Farmer Grant. Applicants have to match dollar for dollar for the projects they propose. Applicants can be awarded up to $10,000, and the money must be used for agriculture expenses, such as seed, feed, and livestock.

USDA Rural Development Value Added Producer Grants

The Texas Farm Bureau announced that the USDA is awarding grants to farmers and business owners who combine agricultural projects with technology in new ways, or use agricultural equipment in creative or nontraditional applications. The USDA is awarding a total of $18 million, and individual applicants can be awarded up to $100,000. For the grant money requested applicants must provide matching funds.

Wine Grape Investment Grant Program

In an attempt to encourage more wine production in the state of Texas, the Texas Department of Agriculture created the Wine Grape Investment Grant Program. Farmers or businesses who wish to expand their pre-existing vineyards at least five acres, or who wish to create new ones, are eligible to apply for this grant. Applicants can be awarded up to $25,000, but must document businesses expenses before the money will be awarded. The grant money can only be used for wine related expenses, such as irrigation, fertilizer, and trellises.
