Scholarships For Fashion Merchandising

Fashion merchandising scholarships are available for talented students.

A degree in fashion merchandising encompasses a wide range of skills in the fashion industry including manufacturing, purchasing, promoting and selling. It may also include training in the field of textiles, fabrics and fibers. Fashion merchandising is not limited to clothing and can include cosmetics, jewelry, shoes and other fashion accessories.

YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund

The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund is a nonprofit association whose mission is to promote the education of the fashion business. Influential members of the fashion community administer the scholarships of this organization in addition to managing mentoring programs and facilitating internships for talented students. Merit-based scholarships are open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who are full-time students at a member school. Eligibility requires a minimum 3.0 grade-point average based on a 4.0 scaling system. Students applying for an annual scholarship must complete a case study and be interviewed by an FSF member. Students should contact the FSF educator contact at the member school for application information.

Geoffrey Beene Scholars

Geoffrey Beene Scholarships are awarded to the top students attending YMA Scholarship Fund member schools. While the YMA Scholarship Fund awards 80 annual scholarships in the amount of $5,000, an additional four students are chosen to be Geoffrey Beene Scholars and awarded $25,000, according to Scholarships.com. Four students are chosen as runner-up scholars and each receive $10,000. Awards are presented each year at the FSF Geoffrey Beene Scholarship Awards Dinner in New York City.

FDIM

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising awards six one-year scholarships to cover the expenses of attendance at the Institute. Applications are open to high school seniors, as well as graduates with no college-level training in the field. There are six categories of scholarships, all associated with the fashion industry. Applicants must be permanent United States residents and citizens. The scholarship covers the cost for one year of tuition, books, fees and the majority of supplies needed for the major in the winning category.

Fashion Club

Fashion Club, a collegiate organization sponsored by the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, offers several scholarship opportunities to high school students interested in attending the Institute. All active Fashion Club members are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship, while seniors can win up to $5,000 as of 2011. Fashion Club also sponsors an annual Prom Advice Scholarship Competition open to juniors and seniors. Applicants submit a prom-related project focused on fashion merchandising such as designing the ultimate prom dress boutique. Winners receive a full one-year scholarship to attend the Institute.
