College tuition is expensive, but almost every student qualifies for some federal aid.
The Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used by the Department of Education to determine how much tuition aid students qualify for. The analysis takes into account financial and household information for an individual student or that student's family if the student is a dependent. Almost every student, according to the Department of Education, qualifies for some form of aid, including grants, loans and work-study programs. The form takes an average of 1-to-2 hours to fill out. The Department of Education suggests applying as early as possible after January 1 to ensure funds are available.
