Every year, students around the world seek admittance to a university in Japan; however, each applicant must learn to speak and write Japanese beforehand, since a substantial number of classes are taught in that language. University of Tokyo
Tokyo Teikoku Daigaku, or the University of Tokyo, was originally named Tokyo Igakko and was formed in 1876. The president is Junichi Hamada, Ph.D., who began his four-year term in 2009. The University of Tokyo reiterates the necessity of learning Japanese since most of the lectures are given in that language.
Undergraduates may enter as a regular or research student in one of the following programs: law, medicine, engineering, letters, science, agriculture, economics, arts and sciences, education, and pharmaceutical sciences.
The graduate and Ph.D. schools offer agricultural and life science, arts and sciences, economics, education engineering, frontier sciences, humanities and sociology, information science and technology, interdisciplinary information studies (Japanese), law and politics, mathematical sciences, medical science, pharmaceutical sciences, public policy (Japanese), and science. An entrance exam is required for admission.

Kyoto University
Hiroshi Matsumoto is the president of Kyoto University. He began his term in October 2008, and it is expected to run six years, The university was founded 1897. Osaka University
In 1724, Kaitokudo was founded with a student body that consisted mainly of businessmen or merchants. Osaka University and Osaka University of Engineering became one in 1933, and the school was called the Osaka Imperial University. In 1947, the name changed again and became the Osaka University. Kiyokazu Washida now heads the university.
