A variety of educational grants and scholarships are available to students pursuing a nursing degree in Texas. Texas grants for nursing are available from the state government, local chapters of national organizations and from departments of nursing at individual Texas institutions of higher learning.
Texas Professional Nursing Scholarships
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board makes scholarship money available to Texas nursing students through its Professional Nursing Scholarship Program. Texas Professional Nursing Scholarships are awarded in amounts of up to $2,500. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Texas, must be pursuing a nursing degree at a Texas institution, must be able to demonstrate financial need, and must be registered for the Selective Service (unless exempt). Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. Preference may be given to students from rural areas. Interested students should visit the THECB website for more information.

Good Samaritan Foundation of Texas Nursing Scholarships
The Texas chapter of the Good Samaritan Foundation awards scholarships to Texas nursing students each year. The scholarships are awarded in varying amounts, and may only be used to defray the cost of tuition, educational fees and textbooks. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Texas, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and must intend to work in Texas upon graduating. All levels of students are eligible, including doctoral candidates. A student may apply for this scholarship at any time. University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing Scholarships
The School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin makes several educational grant programs available to its students. The Texas Nursing Association District 5 Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 to a student pursuing an associate's degree in nursing, and in the amount of $2,000 to a student who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing. To be eligible, a student must be in his sophomore year and have a grade point average of at least 2.5. The Austin APNS Scholarship is available to nursing students who are residents of Texas and have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
