Scholarships for Students With Medical Problems


Financial aid for students suffering from medical problems falls into three main categories of federal and state funding including local and regional educational grants and scholarships. University financial aid is also made available to students with medical problems. Corporate grants and financial relief is also offered by corporate organizations such as Nike, Honda, Microsoft and Hewlett Packard. The terms medical condition covers all mental, emotional and physical chronic problems which adversely effect student life.


Schering-Plough Corporation "Will to Win" Asthma Scholarship


The Schering-Plough Corporation offers two scholarships of $5,000 to high school seniors suffering from asthma. The scholarship is awarded to students pursuing college education in the academic fields of athletics, student government, performing and visual arts, and community service. Eligibility requirements include a 3.5 GPA and an official academic transcript. The award is offered only to U.S. citizens who show proof of having received any scholarship in a related academic discipline.








American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) Award of Excellence Scholarship


This scholarship is open to all U.S. citizens who enroll for college studies and covers tuition and related academic expenses. AAAAI provides two need-based scholarships of $1,000 each coupled with several $100 merit-based scholarships.


National Association for Learning Disabilities (NALD)


The NALD administers the Ann Ford Scholarship to all U.S. based, college-bound students battling chronic learning disabilities. The scholarship provides $10,000 to a student of learning disability condition enrolled in any area of academic study. The scholarship is offered on a yearly basis.


Autism Society of America (ASA)


The ASA administers several educational grants and scholarships to autistic individuals pursuing undergraduate, graduate, research and professional studies. This includes the Eden Services Charles Hoens, Jr., Scholars Program which offers educational funding opportunities for all autism related disorders and attention deficit disorders, including severe depression. Pfizer Epilepsy Scholarship Award








This corporate grant is offered every year to a student applying or enrolled in an undergraduate and/or graduate degree program. The scholarship requires that the student show official medical proof of being an epileptic patient. This means that the applicant has to attach records of being under a certified doctor's care for epilepsy. The $3,000 scholarship is merit as well as need based.


The Lilly Moving Lives Forward Reintegration Scholarship


The Reintegration scholarship is given to students whose academic life is suddenly interrupted by severe mental illness. This includes bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, mental retardation and related chronic disorders. The scholarship amount varies depending on the severity of mental illness of applicant. The fund covers all tuition and academic expenses.
