Attend A University Of Maryland Football Game

Attend a University of Maryland Football Game

"Fear the Turtle!" This is a slogan used by the University of Maryland's athletic department, and now by the entire university. Seldom has a turtle been more fearsome than in the form of the Maryland Terrapins football team, which can boast a long string of bowl appearances, championships, Collegiate Football Hall of Fame players, and players who have gone on to win fame in the NFL, including 1988 NFL MVP turned radio and TV broadcaster Boomer Esiason. If you'd like to join in this 116-year-old tradition, why not attend a Terrapins game and see for yourself why this turtle is to be feared?

Instructions

1. Purchase your tickets online if you want to get the best seats ahead of time. Priority seating will, of course, go towards members of the Terrapin Club, the booster club composed of alumni, friends and fans of University of Maryland Athletics. If you are not a season ticket holder or Terrapin Club member, you will not be able to purchase a single game ticket until just a few weeks before the season starts--check the website for the exact date tickets go on sale.

2. Check out the away game schedule as well. While some of these games may be held a good way away from College Park, MD, other games are held much closer to hand in neighboring states such as Delaware and Virginia. You can purchase tickets to any of the away games through the Terrapin Ticket Office , and these tickets will be mailed out at least two weeks prior tot he game date.

3. Show your team spirit by dressing in red and white. You may feel like a giant candy cane, but these are the team colors.

4. Park in the Mowatt Lane Garage, Terrapin Trail Garage (Lot 6), Paint Branch Visitor's lot, Lot 9C, Lot 11C, Lot 11B, Lot 4i or Lot 4B for game day cash parking. If you are a Terrapins Club member and a season ticket holder, you will have access to a much wider range of parking options, but you will still need to purchase a season parking pass.

5. Pack your picnic basket to throw a pregame talgate party. You may park up to six hours before the games start, but you are limited to using the number of spaces for which you have purchased permits. You may not have an open-flame grill if you are parked in a covered garage, but if you're outside you should be okay.

6. Enjoy your last pre-game adult beverage in the parking lot. Byrd Stadium is an entirely dry venue, and if you are caught trying to smuggle any alcoholic beverages in, you may be ejected, have your tickets revoked, or even be arrested.

7. Bring cash or a credit card if you's like to enjoy a snack during the game. Byrd stadium has concessions stands located on all three levels, all of which accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards.

8. Consider renting a chair back if you find sitting on backless bleachers uncomfortable for an entire game. Season ticket holders have the option of renting a permanent chairback for the entire season, and the seats in the Red Zone even come with their own chairbacks.
