Practical Nursing Degrees

Practical nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians.


Licensed practical nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. LPNs care for those who are sick, convalescent, injured or disabled. Students can pursue a degree in practical nursing to prepare them for the national examination for licensure. Students may also enroll in a program designed for practical nurses to become registered nurses.








Rasmussen College


Rasmussen College has a practical nursing program that prepares students to enter the field of practical nursing. Students who complete this program can sit for the national licensure examination that is held by the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Courses include computer information systems, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, introduction to pharmacology, nursing foundations and nutrition and diet therapy. Students will also take psychosocial nursing, maternal and child nursing, and geriatric nursing.

Pioneer Pacific College


Pioneer Pacific College offers a practical nursing program that can take up to five terms or 50 academic weeks for students to complete. The emphasis is on developing clinical skills so that students can train to become a licensed practical nurse. Students will learn their lessons and training in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings so that they have an in-depth understanding of the skill sets they are learning. Also, as part of the curriculum, a student will take a preparation course that prepares her to take the licensure examination to become a licensed practical nurse.

ECPI College of Technology


ECPI College of Technology has a practical nursing program that prepares students for licensure as a practical nurse. This program requires that students also learn in laboratory and clinical settings in addition to the traditional classroom settings. Once students have completed this program, they can work in settings that include hospitals, nursing homes and physicians' offices while working under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed physician.

Milwaukee Area Technical College


Milwaukee Area Technical College has an Associate of Applied Science degree program in practical nursing for the LPN to RN educational progression. This program is designed specifically for a licensed practical nurse who is interested in becoming a registered nurse. Students in this program must have an LPN license, have completed a nursing assistant course and has at least one year of experience in this field. Courses include nursing clinical skill development, nursing management concepts and nursing mental health community concepts. Students who complete this program can take the registered nursing licensure exam.
