You can pursue graphic design training at a vocational school in Michigan.


Also referred to as technical schools and community colleges, vocational schools provide career-oriented training that emphasizes the hands-on development of real-world skills. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, the demand for professionally trained graphic designers is projected to increase by at least 13 percent through until 2018. Several schools in the state of Michigan offer high-quality vocational training in graphic design that allows graduates to take advantages of the field's growing demand.


Mott Community College


Mott Community College offers an associate in applied science degree with a major in graphic design. Students may specialize in one of three tracks: motion and media graphics, illustration or general studies. Core requirements include drawing, basic illustration, two-dimensional design, digital design, typography and professional development. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through a professional graphic design internship course. General education coursework in English composition, humanities, social science and math are also required.

Washtenaw Community College








The School of Digital Media Arts at Washtenaw Community College provides both a certificate program and an associate in applied science degree in graphic design. Both programs allow graduates to apply their credentials toward several Bachelor of Science degree programs at Eastern Michigan University. Course topics include typography, illustrator and photoshop graphics, print publishing software applications, graphic communication, illustration, digital imaging and website design. The degree program includes additional training in web graphics, publication design and internet design in addition to general education requirements in English, technical math, natural science, social science and computer literacy.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College


Kalamazoo Valley Community College provides both a certificate of achievement in graphic design and a post-associate certificate in graphic design graduates of associate degree programs. The former features introductory training in typography, image and vector design, print production, page layout and digital photography. The latter program includes additional training in business development, interactive design, web design, javascript, concept development, video production and advanced software applications.

It offers a four-year degree program in graphic design that provides in-depth training in all aspects of communication, multimedia and design.
