Students seek advanced degrees in biology.
With an increasingly competitive job market, many students are opting for a master's degree in order to sharpen their credentials and end up at the top of the resume pile. Selecting an appropriate program is important because they all have unique components, locations and requirements that will fulfill individual needs. For prospective students interested in biology graduate programs, there are a number of schools to consider.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Indiana University offers a Master of Science in Biology degree regular program and an accelerated track program. For the former option, students spend approximately two years taking 35 credits of courses such as biometry, biology seminars, cellular/molecular biology, organismal biology, ecology and evolution. Students can then opt to work on a six-credit thesis or two three-credit independent studies. Students on the accelerated track are required to enter the program with a 3.0 or higher GPA, as well as with letters of recommendation during their junior year of the undergraduate program. They complete 32 credits of course requirements, including a thesis. At least 50 percent of the courses must be at the school's 600 level or above.
