A college football game is the focal point of a festive homecoming weekend.
Each year, college students and graduates congregate for homecoming weekend to cheer on their school or alma mater at a football game. They may also engage in activities such as parades, dances and mixers. A secondary activity at some of these events is drinking. Some of these events' attendees may have T-shirts created to commemorate the homecoming weekend's festivities.
Drinking Game Shirts
Drinking game shirts highlight the aspect of playing a drinking game. Beer pong, Quarters and card-based games, such as Hi-Lo, are all drinking games played throughout the country on college campuses. Create a shirt that uses either graphics of people playing those games, or text that details the rules of those games. For example, a beer pong shirt might outline the number of cups to be used and the fill line for each. Make it specific to homecoming by placing the dates of the weekend an name of the school on the shirt. For example, the shirt might read "College Homecoming Beer Pong Rules September 26, 27 & 28, 2011."
Homecoming Bar or Pub Crawl Shirts
College campuses are often surrounded by pubs and bars that students frequent when they socialize with friends. During homecoming week, fraternities, sororities and alumni chapters organize events such as pub crawls in which groups of people move from bar to bar over the course of the night. Create a shirt that details the name of your college or university, the name of your group, such as a certain fraternity or alumni association, the name of the bars along the crawl and other homecoming details such as the date of the homecoming game and who your team is playing. Use the school colors for the shirts or use a stand-out color such as a bright blue, yellow or green. This helps keep your group together over the course of the evening as you move from bar to bar.
Tailgating Shirts
One popular activity before college football games is tailgating. People gather in the parking lot, prepare food, and crack cold beverages hours before the game begins. This is especially true for the homecoming game because a bigger overall audience means more tailgaters in the parking lot. Create a shirt specifically for tailgating before the big game. Pass it out to all of your friends who will be tailgating alongside you in the parking lot. You can give yourselves a group name such as the "tailgate crew" or something related to the name of your team. If you know everyone who is attending your pre-game party, you can place their actual name on the shirt.
Year of Graduation
The purpose of homecoming is to encourage alumni to return to the school from which they graduated to celebrate with former classmates. Create a shirt that details information about the year you graduated in relation to your school. Detail information such as the record of the football team that year, who the standout players were and major events that happened around campus. If the mascot or logo was different, you might use the artwork from that time period on the shirt. Additionally, mention that cocktail or beer brand everyone used to drink or the drinking games you all loved to play. Make the shirt a nostalgic representation of that time.
Dry Campus or Sports Venue
Before creating drinking shirts for homecoming weekend, check the policies and procedures of the college, university and any fraternity or sorority with which you are affiliated. A policy may be in place that does not allow alcohol themed shirts to be created and worn at school-sanctioned events. In this case, drinking shirts would have to be created and worn outside of those events by students in the general population or the community at large, depending on how the rule is written.
Additionally, if a campus is "dry," meaning it doesn't allow drinking on campus including in the sports venues, then homecoming drinking shirts make you a target for a citation from the school or local authorities. In this case, wear the shirts away from campus in a public setting that allows drinking, such as a restaurant or bar, or in a private residence with other friends and family participating in the weekend festivities.
