Preserve the memories of your sorority years with a handmade gift.
One of the hallmarks of a young woman's college experience is her acceptance and participation in a sorority. If you have a relative or friend who has recently been accepted into a sorority or who has been a dedicated member for a long time, you can make them a handmade gift to preserve the memories of their sorority years.
Hand-knit Sorority Clothing
An article of hand-knit clothing would make a very thoughtful sorority-themed gift. You can knit an armband or a cap out of yarn using the colors of your or the recipient's sorority. You can also knit in the Greek letters of the sorority, words from the sorority's motto and whatever other special messages or images you wish to include. If your knitting skills are more advanced, you may want to knit an entire sorority sweater or a small blanket.
Handsewn Sorority Teddy Bear
For this next project, you will need a yard of felt or fleece in either brown or white, a spool of sewing thread, a needle, a package of fiber stuffed animal filling, a teddy bear sewing template of your choosing, and various beads, gems, fabric paint and googly eyes for decorating. Sew the bear together according to the template directions and stuff it with the fiber filling. Decorate the bear with the decorations forming the Greek letters and symbols of the sorority on the front and back of the bear. You can also create the bear using felt in your sorority's colors.
Handmade Candle or Soap Gift
To create a candle or soap set, you need candle wax or glycerin soap mix in the colors of your or the recipient's sorority. You also need molds or cookie cutters of the letters for the sorority (such as A for Alpha, G for Gamma). Prepare the candles or soap in the molds according to manufacturer directions or cut letters out with the cookie cutters. You may have to carve certain Greek symbols out of the wax or soap by hand. Wrap the candles or soap letters in cellophane and place them in a decorative basket.
Other Handmade Soroirty Gifts
If you are skilled in woodburning or wood carving, you can burn or carve a plaque with the sorority's symbols and hymn. You could also mold candy lollipops in the colors and letters of the sorority. Lastly, you could create a scrapbook or handmade greeting cards using craft paper, scrapbooking materials and pictures of fond sorority memories.
