Many colleges now offer online degrees.
As the Internet has become an accepted part of our daily lives, more and more educational establishments are offering distance-learning courses. These range from free lessons for the general public to fully accredited degree programs. Some colleges offer online courses alongside conventional learning, while others are focused entirely on Web-based learning. In the United States, you can find colleges offering master's and bachelor's degrees in a range of subjects, including all branches of psychology.
Master of Science Programs
A Master of Science (M.S.) program usually requires that you have completed a bachelor's degree. Once obtained, your M.S. allows you to participate in doctoral studies, if you wish. California Coast University offers an online Master of Science in Psychology, as do California Southern University, Pacific Graduate School of Psychology and Walden University. Capella University offers an M.S. in general psychology, as well as other areas in the field. Kansas State University offers a Master of Science degree in psychology with an emphasis in industrial and organizational psychology (MIOP).
Master of Arts Programs
A Master of Arts (M.A.) degree is usually a four-year program. It may be wholly study based or wholly research based, but typically you will engage in both study and research. California Southern University, Northcentral University and Union Institute & University all offer distance-learning programs for Master of Arts degrees. Newport University offers M.A. programs in psychology and in human behavior. Prescott College offers an M.A. in counseling and psychology. The University of North Dakota runs an M.A. program in forensic psychology.
Doctorate Programs
Doctorate programs in psychology include Ph.D.s in the field of psychology. They may focus on specific areas, such as clinical psychology. You can also opt for a Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) program. California Southern University offers a Psy.D. in psychology, as does Ryokan College. Union Institute & University offers a Psy.D. in clinical psychology. Capella University offers a Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology, as well as a Ph.D. in psychology. Other schools offering Ph.D. psychology programs are Northcentral University and Walden University.
Benefits of Distance Learning
Although distance learning has some drawbacks, such as the lack of the social experience associated with conventional college study, it has many advantages. Distance learning means that you do not have to travel to classes and that you can study in your own time. This means that you don't have to take time away from work or family to continue your education.
