Format A College Admission Essay

Admission essays can help a student get into school.

A college admissions application is required by many universities and colleges and is one component that determines admissions. A strong essay is important to show your seriousness, intent and competency level to attend college. Admissions essays should be focused and succinct, no more than a page or two. Some universities give students a word limit. Follow basic grammar and spelling rules when writing an essay, and proofread it several times to make sure the essay is error free.

Instructions

1. Create a new document in a word processing document. Make margins that are 1 inch, and set the font size to 12. Use a standard font like Times New Roman.

2. Select the choice to double-space the essay. Indent every paragraph.

3. Write the essay using the first person. Even though it's a formal essay, the essay reflects your experiences and background. Do not use the second person, including "you" or "your."

4. Use MLA style throughout the paper. But keep the essay personal and speak about who you are. List goals for education, and state how your education can help you achieve life goals.

5. Use proper grammar and spelling throughout the essay. Proofread the essay a few times. Get a teacher, friend or parent to look at the essay as well.
