Answer Questions At A Nursing School Entrance Interview

TO get into nursing school, you may have to take the NLN exam, pass the hesi entrance examination and possibly visit your soon to be nursing school for an entrance interview. This interview may be what determines if your dreams of becoming a nurse come true or not because you may be interviewing fro a seat that's available to you and several other people. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for the interview.

1. Know answer the question "tell me about yourself?". This question does not mean tell me about your husband and children. It means tell me your resume or something extraordinary about yourself. Your answer should focus on, the jobs you have held, especially those that will help you as a nurse, your contributions to your community and what you are currently doing which may be preparing for nursing school.


2. Be aware of answer the question "why do you want to be a nurse?" This question requires you to say something that has meaning to you and is sincere. You may talk about an experience that inspired you, a nurse that encouraged you by the way she cared for you or a loved one, or your love fr the health field. Whatever you say has to sound and seem sincere.


3. Be ready to answer the question "how will you cope in nursing school". This might come up if you have a family with children or are pregnant or are single with no responsibilities. Nursing school can be taxing and may require you to quit your job if you have one. Answer this question by letting your interviewer know that you have a support system in place that will see you through your time in nursing school.








4. Know what makes you stand out. You may be asked why you should be admitted into the school you are interviewing for or why you want to go there. If you know anything about the school, this would be a good time to talk about it. Talk about their high nclex-rn pass rates, about how your friends have graduated from there sucessfully or the fact that you feel at home there and feel the atmosphere will help you succeed. You can also talk about your unique qualities and how you can add value to the school by way of being a good student or excellent representative of the nursing school when you become a registered nurse.
