Metallurgical Engineering Degree Colleges In Ohio

Metallurgical engineers study metals, and solve manufacturing related problems.

Metallurgical engineering undergraduate and graduate academic degree programs are offered at three of Ohio's public universities. Students prepare for varying careers in metallurgical engineering---from thermodynamics and extractive metallurgy---by enrolling in courses that focus on materials processing, metal fabrication and electrometallurgy, among other subject areas.

University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati has an undergraduate baccalaureate program, as well as a master's and a doctorate program in materials engineering, which feature substantial coursework in metallurgical engineering. Both are housed within the university's Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering. The university's undergraduate and graduate programs in materials engineering is apt preparation for varying specialties in metallurgy---such careers as a physical metallurgist, an extractive metallurgist, a process metallurgist and naturally, as a metallurgical engineer. Areas of study include powder metallurgy, metallurgical thermodynamics and metallurgical techniques, among others. Graduate students can additionally choose a M.S. and Ph. D. dual-degree track in Materials Science and Materials Engineering.

Cleveland State University

Cleveland State University's chemical engineering undergraduate and graduate academic programs are housed within the university's Fenn College of Engineering. While the school does not offer a metallurgical engineering degree, it does feature a comparable curriculum to other metallurgy courses of study, as well as a number of courses that focus on the processing of engineering metals and the fundamentals of metals. Fundamentals of Engineering Mechanics and Advanced Mechanics of Materials are just a few of the classes that are a part of Cleveland's Engineering Technology Department. In addition to the undergraduate major, CSU also offers comparable graduate studies in the field.

Ohio State University: Columbus Campus

The Ohio State University's Columbus campus features a metallurgy specialization within the College of Engineering's Materials Science & Engineering program. In addition to core coursework in chemistry, physics, engineering mechanics and other general science courses, students interested in a career as a metallurgical engineer can take courses from a specialized curriculum. Metallurgy courses include process metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy and corrosion, among others. Ohio's metal processing companies have hired many recent graduates of Ohio State's metallurgy program. The university features both undergraduate and graduate programs in the field.
