Writing an essay for law school might seem like a difficult task, but for anyone who wants to pursue a law degree, the effort is well worth it.
Why Law?
One of the most basic ideas for law school entrance essays is an essay on why you decided to choose law as your career pursuit. It can never be as simple as "I just like to argue," as this will rarely impress an admissions board. Write about the less obvious reasons that you have chosen to pursue law. Show the board that you are more than just a skin-deep lawyer want-to-be, but someone who truly has a passion for justice and the law.
Why Should I Be a Lawyer?
One step further than why you chose law is why you believe that you should be a lawyer. This goes even further, showing an admissions board that you want to be a lawyer for more than just a paycheck and acclaim. If you desire to pursue politics, explain why. Admissions boards always like to see new, promising and ambitious students pursuing lofty goals. Tell them why you deserve to be in the program based on your merits and character.
Issue-Based Argument
If you want to pursue a subject that is more in-depth than just your personal accolades, writing an essay based on a particular issue can be a great way to approach an admissions essay for law school. Take an issue that you are upset about or an issue that you know a fair amount about. Go in-depth and talk about why you think what you think about that issue and what you would do about that issue were you in a greater position of power, such as a lawyer.
What Sets You Apart
Many people apply for law school. Admissions boards usually want to pick out the best of the best. Make sure that you include in your essay why you would be a good addition to a law school. Include things that you think bring you a step above other applicants. If you have won any awards of distinction, mention them. Also, if you have worked on a law-based project, mention that, too. Point out your previous achievements, activities, jobs, internships, volunteer activities and so forth. Anything notable that you have done or achieved in the recent past that is worth mentioning should be brought to the board's attention.
