Build A Kitchen Blackboard & Note Board

A blackboard can be a great addition to a kitchen.

A built-in blackboard or note board in a kitchen is a great way to keep a running grocery list or to create an area where you can help your children with their homework. You can purchase blackboard paint and even paint that works with dry-erase markers and create your own one-of-a-kind customized blackboard and note board as a DIY weekend project.

Instructions

1. Determine the size you want your blackboard or note board to be by measuring the wall with a tape measure. Decide on a height and a width that meet your needs. You can create a small workspace or a large space that takes up a large portion of the wall.

2. Cut the frame for the blackboard or note board to match the needed measurements with trim molding and a miter saw. Cut each end of the molding with a 45-degree angle so the frame has accurate 90-degree angles. Trim molding will give the blackboard the look of a framed picture.

3. Paint or stain the frame to your desired color and then wait for the trim to dry.

4. Place the first piece of horizontal trim on the wall where you want the top of the frame and secure it to the wall with finishing nails.

5. Position the vertical pieces of trim at each end of the horizontal and secure them with finishing nails.

6. Place the bottom piece of trim against the bottom of the horizontal pieces and secure it with finishing nails.

7. Cover the inside edge of the trim with painters tape. Apply two coats of blackboard paint or dry-erase paint onto the wall with a paint roller. Allow 24 hours for the paint to dry and then remove the painters tape.
