Ncaa Division Colleges In Iowa

There are NCAA Division I, II and III schools in Iowa.


The National Collegiate Athletic Association has three divisions--I, II and III. There are NCAA colleges in Iowa in all three of these divisions. Larger universities and colleges like the University of Iowa are in Division I while smaller colleges such as the University of Northern Iowa are in Division II and even smaller schools are in Division III.


University of Iowa


The University of Iowa, located in Iowa City, is an NCAA Division I school and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The athletics department at the University of Iowa includes more than 50 sports groups, athletic organizations and intramural teams. University of Iowa athletes provide the community with summer youth programs and sports camps. The University of Iowa offers students financial aid, work study tuition programs and career counseling services. Academically, the University of Iowa offers students the following program choices: college of business, college of engineering, college of public health, college of nursing, college of medicine and college of law, just to name a few. Summers at the University of Iowa bring the Summer Writing Festival and the Young Writers' Studio.

Iowa State University


Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is an NCAA Division I school. Both men's and women's basketball programs, cross country, football, men's and women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and track and field are just some of the sports offered in the Iowa State University athletic department. The Cyclones are currently in the Big 12 Conference and state-wide rivals with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa State is recognized nationally for the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering and Design.

Buena Vista


Located in Storm Lake, Iowa, Buena Vista University is an NCAA Division III school. The men's sports offered at Buena Vista are baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field and wrestling. The women's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Financial aid in the forms of grants and scholarships, and work study programs are offered. The average incoming freshman at Buena Vista for the school year of 2009-2010 had a 3.3 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, a 22 on the ACT and was in the top one-third of his graduating class from high school.
