What is a Personal Value Statement?
A personal value statement, also called a personal mission statement, is fundamentally similar to a company mission statement except it describes a person's personal values and beliefs.
Purpose
A personal value statement is written by an individual to express their personal values and beliefs. It is often given to prospective employers, attached to a resume. It summarizes a person's core values, what made the person who they are, and what the person's future goals are.
Features
Personal value statements must be clear, concise and relatively brief. A complete life history does not need to be included, instead include things such as past successes, core values, contributions and goals. Goals should be broke down into short-term and long-term. Include all key aspects that offer a positive image of the person.
Benefits
A person's resume only tells his work history, educational experience and personal facts. Offering a personal value statement gives prospective employers a look as to who the person is behind all the facts and what motivates them.
