Top Medical Schools List

Pediatricians specialize in diagnosing and treating illnesses in children.


The medical field is comprised of physicians who are medical researchers, primary care providers and those who specialize in treating certain patients or particular diseases. The U.S. News & World Report's 2010 list of the best medical schools is separated into categories of primary care and research as well as specialty fields, such as geriatrics.


Primary Care


You see a primary care physician on a regular basis for a variety of health care needs, including physicals, check-ups and common illnesses. The U.S. News & World Report ranks the University of Washington number one in the training of primary care physicians, with 100 points out of a possible 100 points. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ranked number two on the list with 90 points.

Research


Medical researchers study illnesses, treatments and possible cures. The top two schools on the U.S. News & World Report's 2010 list of the best medical schools for research are both private universities. Harvard University ranked number one on the list with a perfect score of 100 points. The number two spot belongs to University of Pennsylvania, earning a total of 81 points out of 100.

Geriatrics


The U.S. News and World Report's 2010 list of best medical schools lists Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore as the number one ranked school for the study of geriatrics. The number two position on the list is occupied by Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. These two universities are the most recommended by the deans and faculty of medical schools nationwide.
