There are many careers for BFA holders.
A number of colleges and universities offer bachelor's degrees in the fine arts (BFAs). Although many BFA holders will go on to become professional artists, many others will take careers involving them in a field within the art industry. Some of these professions will require additional education and training, and others can be entered with an undergraduate degree.
Art Appraiser
Art appraisers are specialists who help determine the monetary value of a piece of art. This requires both a knowledge of the art market and an ability to make critical judgments about the work's quality, condition and rarity.
Critic
Art critics offer reviews and critiques of exhibits, pieces and artists. Art critics are required to be sufficiently familiar with the artistic movements they cover to be able to offer some background on the work, as well as make judgments regarding their innovation, skill and overall effect.
Curator
Curators plan and organize art exhibits, often featuring works with a common theme, such as works by a single artist or in a single style. Curators are generally employed by museums, but may work for private galleries as well.
Professor
Professors of art instruct students in the techniques of artistic production, often focusing on a single medium, such as painting or sculpture. Generally, artists must produce a significant body of work before attaining such a position.
Sign Painter
Sign painters are a kind of commercial artist responsible for the design and painting of signs, such as those displayed by businesses. Often sign painters will apply their paint directly onto the building of the business, such as on the front window or on a wall.
Book Jacket Designer
Book jacket designers are a type of graphic artist charged with designing the front and back covers for print books. Generally the artist should have a good understanding of both graphic design and literature, as he will need to express the main ideas of the book visually.
Production Designers
Production designers are artists used in TV, film and theater to help design and create the scenery of a production. A production designer will often be responsible not just for sets, but also will have a hand in lighting and props as a way of helping to ensure the production maintains a cohesive look.
Picture Framer
Picture framing, although perhaps secondary to the work being framed, is itself an art and requires a keen understanding of aesthetics. Framers must understand the effect different kinds of frames have and how they interact with the work they are surrounding and the space they are hung in.
