Employers consider online colleges as credible education insititutions.
Traditional and Internet classes are similar in the credibility, cost and effectiveness of their programs. The differences should be measured by anyone looking into a higher education program.
Credibility
According to a 2006 study by Vault Inc., 81 percent of employers consider online degrees more credible now than five years ago. This represents how the quality of online programs has improved over the years. The study also found that 86 percent of the employers would hire someone with an online degree.
Cost
The cost of taking online classes is usually about the same as taking community college classes. The total cost of the Kaplan University MBA program is approximately $20,000, as of September 2010, according to FLDCU.org, while the yearly cost is about $17,000 for a traditional in-state university and about $35,000 for a private university as of 2008-09. There are also costs such as travel, gas, and wear and tear on your vehicle associated with traditional programs.
Effectiveness
Traditional and Internet classes are each effective ways of learning. Internet classes allow students to graduate in a shorter amount of time and to learn in their own environment. An Internet class also allows reflection before responding to questions. While learning the material of the course topic, the student is also practicing technological skills and proactive work behaviors.
