Online Canadian Accounting Schools

You can study accounting online at a Canadian school.

Accounting refers to the systematic process of recording and analyzing financial data in a variety of contexts, including small businesses, government agencies and private corporations. Post-secondary training is required to work as an accountant in Canada. For students who are unable to make the financial and time commitment required of a traditional on-campus program in accounting, there are three schools in Canada that offer online distance learning options. Students can study at their own convenience without forfeiting their responsibilities to work and family.

Athabasca University

Located in northern Alberta, Athabasca University (AU) is the largest provider of distance learning programs in Canada. It is devoted solely to distance education and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in a wide range of areas, including the liberal arts and sciences, health administration, nursing, business and information technology. All coursework is delivered, with the help of an individually assigned tutor, through a combination of self-paced correspondence study and online multimedia material. AU offers a four-year Bachelor of Commerce degree program with a major in accounting. Course topics include strategic and competitive analysis, corporate finance, financial accounting, auditing, taxation, investments, risk management, cost analysis and accounting theory. Two undergraduate university certificate programs in accounting and advanced accounting are also available.
