Convert A Comma Separated Txt File To Xls

Opening a comma separated text file into Microsoft Excel is often necessary when you are working with CSV, or comma-separated values. A CSV is the most common format for importing and exporting spreadsheets and databases. The CSV format is necessary when transferring data between computers when the internal word sizes, formatting needs and style structures are different.

Instructions

1. Open Excel. Then using the open file command, enter the Text Import Wizard.

2. Specify that the file is a delimited file and then select commas when prompted to do so. You will then get the data separated into the necessary fields. If this doesn’t work and you have all the data in one field and still separated by commas, read on.

3. Choose the Data menu from the top of your screen and move the text into columns. This will convert the one column of text into multiple columns. You may have to set a few parameters when prompted, including choosing commas as the qualifier. Excel will show you an example of how it will sort the data before you have to finalize the task.
